Resistors vs led electronic flashers??

It seems that most are using resistors and splicing for their LED exterior conversion lights.....i.e. brake, turn, etc.

What are the cons of installing an electronic flasher that deletes the hyperflash for WK2s?

superbrightleds and other sites offer LED bulb electronic flashers that seem to resolve this issue more easily than installing resistors at every connection on our vehicles.

I'm no electrical engineer ......so what am I not understanding?

The nice thing with the relay is that it can handle both LED and incandescent lights in any combination. No need to wire up a resistor either.

So why are most on this site doing resistors?

I just starting researching going the led electronic flasher route....is it difficult to replace?...I've seen research that the FL series LED Bulb Electronic Flasher corrects these hyperflash problems.

What are the cons?

Does anyone know the specific pin set up for WK2s?

does it have a flasher unit? my 2006 Chrysler srt did not, the signals were controlled by the computer, and made a flasher clicking sound so you would know the signal light was on. I purchased the resistors, but did not want to splice into the wiring, so I never put them in the Chrysler and still have them in the garage.

Not sure...I did this on my subaru and it works great. The initial blink is slightly delayed but works fine after that. I know I couldn't fully remove my relay due to location but the other plugged in and worked perfectly. I plan on doing this on the WK2 as well.

I found this from an electronics company that manufactures aftermarket electronic controls for autos.........

"It appears your vehicle may be utilizing a Body Control Module (BCM) or Multifunction Switch that has incorporated the turn signal flasher functionality into its design.

Body Control Module is a generic term for a, typically expensive, automotive electronic module that controls various functions within the vehicle. These BCM's are non serviceable items that must generally be replaced at your local dealership.

Multifunction Switches are different from BCM's as they control various functionality within the stalks near the steering wheel. Replacement is recommended by a professional."


So it looks like inline resistors are it.

I still haven't heard or read of a valid reason why Jeep didn't make the rear turn/brake lights LED on the 2014 WK2's. The 2014 Durango has them and its not Dodge's flagship.

But more likely it came down to the penny pinchers Chrysler must have had to hire from GM having to justify their lucrative salaries.

Are you sure the Durango has LED rear stop/turn? The online info says "LED Tail Lamps" which is what the Grand Cherokee (without LED stop/turn) also says.

The prototype '14 D I saw did not have LED stop/turn, I haven't been behind a production model yet.

I have converted all the light bulb in LED. The flasher does need a resistor though.

sooo am I missing something or is that video useless?
I only see snow and "this video is private"....

I'm still curious about a fix to the sitch....

The flasher unit in my 04 WJ is a $70 item retail aftermarket but $35-40 on eBay or such.

I'm a fair electro-geek-hobbyist although it's been 35 years since BEE school. Takes a while to dredge up some of that stored knowledge from my brain these days....

I'd like to wire load balancers into the flasher instead of at every socket and just put them all in a vented box under the dash.

I installed front LED's for the signal/park bulb (3157 types) a while back and they work fine with the resistors, but those things get WAY hot after the parking lights are illuminated for just a few minutes.

I was thinking to replace everything aft w/ LEDs as well, but... they don't seem to want to play. (still experimenting, haven't used resistors on them yet...)

I may have to buy an eBay flasher unit and cut it open to see the schematic/layout.
Gonna try to find the schema online... hmmm.... maybe in the FSM.... guess I'll do some more homework....

Any ideas about wiring load balnacers into the flasher unit itself for all circuits?
I'm kinda thinking that if it's doable, someone would have done it already and be selling a kit online....
