Road Trip

OK, so first road trip since I've owned her (3.5 years and 16k miles) to Cape cod (about 350 miles) and just wondering what should be checked.

I have approximately 2k miles to the next oil change and the same for the next tire rotation. I plan on airing the tires up to 36 lbs but wasn't sure where you guys stand on any fuel or oil additives for the long haul. I have all the peripherals you'd need: inflator, bottle jack, flares, cables etc etc.

Anything I'm missing either on the peripheral front or pre maintenance before I leave?

Re: Road Trip

1) Throw your stuff in the Jeep.
2) Fill the tank with gas.
3) Hit the road.
4) Have fun!

What's 'bones said. Get in the Jeep and go. There's nothing to "do" other than fill up your fuel tank.

I'm perplexed at your "air up to 36 lbs"...36 psi cold is the typical OEM recommended pressure (look in your door frame for the sticker). I run at 38psi cold normally and don't change that for long trips...or short trips like 350 miles.

Re: Road Trip

Isn't Cape Cod a fairly populated area? Its not like you're going on a road trip into the middle of Utah, where you need to be prepared.

Re: Road Trip

The only thing I do for long road trips (over 2,000 miles) is change the oil if it is almost due for a change, check the washer fluid level, and make sure I have enough DEF in the tank for our diesel engine. Any other regular maintenance items won't be a problem if they get put off by a small amount.

To MD Bones list I would only add :

5) Make sure you have a Coke or similar, some snacks, and most important good company, the rest ?...leave it to your Jeep, will do great !

Re: Road Trip

CB, the day after I took delivery of my MY12 (exactly four years and two days ago) I did a thousand mile round trip for business...
