Rocky road bumper and brush guard, then park assist issue

Hey guys

After reading many posts around here and over other forums, decided to buy my RRO ( rocky road outfitters ) bumper, winch mount and bars.

After some issues to get it off customs (im in Brazil), i got my hands on it. Well built piece. Worh the money.

This weekend it took me and a friend about 6 hours to install. Sad part is to cut the plastic fascia of the bumper ;)

After putting all together, i was hoping that the park assist would not get disturbed by the new bumper. This is first interesting thing here... The part i got is great, but its not like the one rro advertises on their website, they show a flat steel plate around the original bumper. Mine is more like a part that goes forward about an inch or so. You'll get what I mean looking at the pics.

Well... Turned on the truck and got park assit warning of object in front of it. Sad sad.. Dumb i am, put everything back together before testing this. Decided then to remove the lower part of the bumper to get access to the sensors, and disconnect the center pair.

It got worse, as park assist has quit working. Decided to replug them..and now its dead, it is still not working. I get amber led on park asisst disable button, and cant turn it on. Alsp get 'service park assist system'. At evic.

Now i wonder... Of course i am not the only one to install a bumper loke that with front park assist system... But i could. Ot find any other related posts.

Am i doing something wrong here? Help anyone? :)

Thanks..
Cadu

Cadu I've not worked with the front ParkSense on a MY11-13. I have however done some experiments with the rear ParkSense on a MY14. I don't think you will have any success with disconnecting the centre sensors... the system will "fault" with them unplugged.

I also found that when making numerous changes to the connected sensors, and unplugging the module a few times, the system retained the fault status even when I had plugged everything back in as it should be. I'm not sure if it cleared with a few ignition cycles... or perhaps I disconnected the battery to clear it. I gather that the ParkSense module gets thrown off the Bus for bad behaviour or something ;-)

However I agree... that metal section right next to the sensor is going to be a problem. Moving the sensors outward might work... maybe???

Cheers,
Steve

I've had a busy month.... could not put my hands on that (yet). But based on MuSh`s comment, i double checked. Never knew there could be different models of this. Actually, RRO website offers different choices, and I have order the complete package (they call it Brush Bar Combo), and I have ordered it here: Jeep Grand Cherokee bumper kits, WK2... 2011, 2012, 2013.

I see now there is a link to 2014 GC, but I never minded clicking on that, because mine is really a 2011.

I rechecked my order, and there is nothing there about 2014. Well...

What I noted is that probably I got the wrong parts, indeed. You will see in the picture why I mean that (RED jeep is from their website, the other is mine).

- 1 points out in both pictures that the bumper is very different. In their picture it goes around the fascia of the bumper. In mine, its like a box that goes forward. I think this is why MuSh said its a 2014.
- 2 shows that the fixation point for lights are clear in their picture. In my jeep I cant even get the IPF lights that came with the kit to fit (had to put them on top bcs of that). And the ears on the end of the bar touches the bumper before the fixation bolts are fully tight.

So I have not only the park assis issue, but I cant fit my lighs :-(

RRO dont seem to be much of a responsive company.

May current idea is to remove it all and start sawing and welding. Bah... i ordered this thing overseas just to avoid that.

I will keep it posted here.

I ordered the combo unit for my 2014 and they sent me the one for the 2013 and older models. Maybe they got our packages mixed up! I agree, their customer service is usually lacking. They apologized for the mistake and promised a correct replacement asap. That was about a week ago. Maybe worst case scenario, we can swap lol. If I were you, I'd email them and supply a pic of the unit you have.
