Rolling on Incline Hill

I have a 2015 JGC Altitude V6 4x2. Noticed that on incline the jeep will roll back a couple feet. Is this normal? It shocked me when that happened as I only expected a rollback from stick shift. Almost hit the car behind me.

I haven't had an issue with that on my 2015 Altitude. If hill start assist is on and it keeps happening I would take it in to get looked at.

HI GeminiRam,

Have you checked to see if your Hill Start Assist is on? This feature will maintain the level of brake pressure the driver applies for a short period of time after the driver takes their foot off of the brake pedal. If the driver does not apply the throttle during this short period of time, the system will release brake pressure and the vehicle will roll down the hill. You can find more information regarding Hill Start Assist on pages 465-466 of your owner’s manual, which you can view online here: Jeep Owners | Download an Owners Manual 2004 - 2011 | Jeep. If you feel as though your concern does not regard this feature I would recommend taking the vehicle to your local certified FCA dealership to have the vehicle inspected. Please feel free to send me a private message if you would like assistance setting up an appointment.

Thank you,

You might find you need to put a bit of extra pressure on the brake pedal for the hill-hold to work. If so, do it immediately before pressing the gas, because the hold feature lets go after a couple of seconds or so.
