Roof rack D rings...

Hey everybody...

I'm looking for removable and repositionable D rings for the roof rack rails. I'm not looking for crossbars, what I want is something I can use to tie down...say a Christmas tree.

My old Explorer had these, you could twist them and they would slide up and down the rails, or come off, but if you twisted them down parallel to the rails they'd lock and you could use them as tie downs.

Anyone know if anybody make such a thing for the Jeep?

Re: Roof rack D rings...

Ditto. I went out to look at the rails in preparation for picking up a tree this wknd and couldn't find anywhere to tie anything down. Went to a few car part stores and couldn't find anything to fit in the stock rails and don't want to buy the cross bars. I'm hoping someone has got a solution. Thanks.

Re: Roof rack D rings...

The problem is that the rack is designed to support weight: a force down. If you install D rings and tie something to them, that's a force that pulls up. I don't know about the WK2 in particular, but I've known of vehicles where a significant force up could rip the rack right off the roof.
