Thanks again for everyone's help.
The MOPAR crossbars are actually Thules. My Jeep came with them, they do the job.

Re: Rooftop carrier with panoramic sunroof

We used a hard case once on a trip from NY to Atlanta. We spent a week in Atlanta and stored the hard case ... on the roof of the car.

Re: Rooftop carrier with panoramic sunroof

We took a hard Thule case to Atlantic City on an SUV. Couldn't get into the parking garage. Had to back out and remove it. Motel let us store it in a back room but would rather not go through that again.

Re: Rooftop carrier with panoramic sunroof

I think if I was going to go with a hard case, I would rather go with a hitch mounted one like this

Does anyone have experience with one of these?

Re: Rooftop carrier with panoramic sunroof

I was thinking of getting a platform for the hitch not the hitch pod you show, but the pod looks good. Back there there is not as much advantage of a hard case as it's sort of protected and aero is not a big deal etc... Easier to get at though for sure.

I have the mopar bars and thule atlantis 1600 pod for the top. Worked for me for some 5K + miles so far on the Jeep at goal speed of 85 even in headwinds..

I check the bars (and pod clamps- but they never loosen) often as the bars are to be torqued to 5 or 8ftlbs I think and slowly loosen. I have a dedicated cheap torque wrench I keep in the car for this calibrated to a better one.. You don't want to over tighten one in the middle of nowhere.

Trying to figure how to use a Thule (216?) bike hitch with a platform added after as well... That may be too much but they say you can add 2 more bikes with an extension, so why not a platform?? Wind might be an issue that far back.

Re: Rooftop carrier with panoramic sunroof

Just remember that with the hitch mount carrier, you may need to make provisions for your license plate so it's readable from behind.

That's the main reason I was going for the pod over a platform. The pod comes with a bracket for the license plate and working brake lights. My only concern is that without flipper glass on the 2014s it may be impossible to get into the tailgate. The pod tilts back but only when fully empty, so its not much help.

I love it. Sorry off thread.

Those wheels goldish or no? Pic looks to have a gold tint to it.
