I can't imagine what the poor, average consumer (who doesn't even know these forums exist) must be going through trying to get these issues solved by the service departments. Must be pretty frustrating...
you are correct you should not have to but unfortunately this is just the way it is. think about it the same as you would a computer any weird software problems just reboot

My perspective is that approximately 1 year after these EcoDiesels started shipping, the product is finally achieving the quality it should have shipped with. I hope that one flash fixed the schizophrenic, flameroasting heater (I'll know in a few months), the transmission firmware has been updated to befit our engine, the oil life indicator isn't suicidally short anymore, I believe the outside temp sensor is fixed now, the backup camera doesn't drop every third video frame anymore, etc, etc. This is all great now... I am hoping to keep this vehicle for at least a decade.

Yes, they should have shipped it with this level of quality; however, if you want a very conservative approach to vehicle technology then Toyota is your brand. Toyota (and even Lexus!) ships reliable technology that is years out of date. It's a tradeoff... we get bleeding edge stuff that still has a few (sometimes major!) bugs. However, it seems like Jeep at least tries to fix the problems rather than simply denying they exist.

As for disconnecting the battery, I swear I thought the terminal attachment was going to break the first time I disconnected it even though I had unscrewed the nut as far as it would go. I really had to rock it off to get it disconnected. I was about to start prying with tools. The second time I disconnected the battery it simply pulled off with no effort. Guess I had to pop the cherry, as it were.

well said I felt the same my new car felt like a new car a year later but it was mostly software and its good now. try a side to side motion with the cable that loosens it pretty well before pulling up.

Re: RRT 14-050 Messed up my A/C

Thanks guys for all the replies! Good news is that tonight when I went down to start the Jeep, the HVAC was miraculously working fine again! Seems like the issue fixed itself overnight. Ufff.....

So that saves me from messing with the battery.

As a side note, other than this single glitch, I have been more than happy with my SFU! Have been driving it for almost a year now, and it still puts a grin on my face every single time

I booked an appointment to have the transmission flash done as well, to stay current

Re: RRT 14-050 Messed up my A/C

Ha - I wish I had known that there was a fix for this, because I had the opposite problem: When the climate control was set to 72 Auto the vehicle would blow out 53 degree air nonstop. It was only when you adjusted the temp up to MAX that it began to heat up, thus starting the endless cold/hot cycle.

I got the same "that's how they all are" - not from my dealership service guys - but from the regional tech reps. The supposed "software upgrade" in May did no good.

In the end it was too much for me, as I had three check engine lights, a bad DEF pump, got stranded in a blizzard at 250 miles on the ODO, etc. on my '14 Summit. You can't make this stuff up.

I really liked the vehicle but the climate control was the last straw, so they bought the vehicle back after much wrangling.

First thing i did when i got home was pull the cable all solved. Yes i have been doing that when they flash modules. Not the radio updates but the just the module flashes.
Hopefully the 2016 will have CTL, ALT, DEL keys on it... to avoid needing to pull battery cables.

Guys, I just had this update applied today. How do I perform the hard reset to fix the AC issue?

Take off the negative battery cable(or positive, negative easier to get to though) and leave it unhooked for a half hour or longger and then put it back on.

So your AC not working on Auto since the update?

NB: one of these flashes or battery resets disabled my Forward Collision Warning Active Braking and also changed other settings like enabling "auto unlock on exit".

Just go through and double check everything is still set the way you want it.

Re: RRT 14-050 Messed up my A/C

I had the same issue after getting this update lastweek. But the next day when I drove the Jeep the AC was working fine. They also updated the radio software and now I have the dreaded shaking back up camera image. Was not going to update the radio since I was not having any issues I was two updates behind but now I have to update to the latest one, since the dealer only updated to the next to last update..

Did you get the most recent radio update? I downloaded and installed mine myself and this update eliminated the back up camera stutter.

I was holding off because I was not having any issues, that is untill the dealer updated the radio without asking me and he only updated to the next to last version which is the version that had the shaky camera issue. Now I have to update myself to the latest version. Will probably do it this weekend.
