Rubber burning smell

So I'm having a rubber burning smell in my 2011 Overland V8. I only get it on two different circumstances. The first is If I really push the engine hard. By that I mean that I'm flooring the accelerator and let it shift at high rpm. The second is anytime I'm stowing something. Usually it's just my pontoon so I have about 2500 lbs behind me. I took it in to the dealer yesterday and at first they couldn't reproduce the smell. After I picked it up I took a tech for a ride with me. He finally got to smell it but couldn't find anything since it only does it under load and stops when you let off. He's thinking maybe the airbags or transmission. Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Rubber burning smell

some people have mentioned a wiring harness that was touching the driver side exhaust muffler on the V8 models...

Re: Rubber burning smell

Maybe an axle CV joint is leaking grease? There's been several posts about this problem on some WK2s. If the grease gets flung onto a hot area underneath the vehicle, causing it to burn off, it can smell like asphalt or rubber. (I know because of a leaking driveshaft CV I had on my liberty.) It's worth checking at least.

Re: Rubber burning smell -- update

So Jeep was finally able to fix the burning smell in my '11 Overland. After taking a tech on a ride and letting him smell it I took it back in. At first they could not find anything. However another tech overheard the issue and told them there was a TSB out for a burning fuel smell when towing or under high loads. The TSB was for the 5.7L only and reprogrammed a module. So far the smell has not come back. I did end up with grease handprints on my leather door inserts as well as on my leather seats but they are going to clean that today.
