1. Has anyone noticed their saddle leather darkening a bit on certain areas? Some parts of my leather are getting black, is this from dirt or discoloration?
2. Has another scuffed or scratched their leather dash? Is their a remedy to fix this??
Haven't noticed any change in color. Did you try any cleaning solutions like woolite and water @ 20:1? Did that help?
Can't say I've scratched the dash. However on other cars I've scratched the steering wheel which was leather and if you rub it it will sort of blend in or work it's way out. Don't know if this will work with the dash though.
My saddle leaher dash is "splotchy". Loooks to have been lightly and unevenly sprayed. better seen in sunlight. I have the same effect in many areas of my paint as well.
The saddle seats and black leather dash look identical to the day it rolled off the assembly line. My 2012 Overland has 4,100 miles. No discoloration, no splotches, side bolster fading/rubbing etc etc. Granted I am anal with my vehicles, but again its perfect.
I used two different products so far, two different treatments. The first time I used Armor All Leather Care Gel, which comes in what looks like a catsup bottle. I've had the stuff for several years, its easy to use, gives great results and it seems to last forever. I think I paid about $6 for it and I have about 3/4 of it left after several uses on my last truck. The second time I splurged and spend $30 plus shipping for Adam's Leather Conditioner, because it advertises itself as a sunblock, and I wanted to protect the dash. It leaves a shiny finsh that I don't like. The cheap Armor All leaves a nice luster.
Alright guys I took a few pictures. One is of the scratch on the leather dash and the other two are pictures of the black discoloration on my saddle leather. I haven't tried cleaning it off yet but I bought Ultima Interior Guard. Is this all I would need to clean it or do I need another product as well?
I was able to see the black area on your center arm rest but couldnt for the life of me find that next button on the top left. As for the black areas no clue what that can be from. When I sit in my Jeep no part of my body comes anywhere near that part of the arm rest and nothing touches that general area. Are you saying that was already there when you bought it, or are you somehow leaning against that or is something touching it?
As for leather care products I dont use anything on my seats they looks brand new still. As for the dash I definately dont use anything on there except a damp rag to remove dust. I hate the look of greasy products I like to keep the new look.
The last one is of the scratch, the first one is more black crap.
I didn't buy the car like this, I guess its from my arm rubbing against it or something. Just wanted to see if it's happened to anyone else. Bought mine new in December 2011 and I have approx 13,000 mi on it.
The black crap looks like ink from a pen. You will likely need some kind of solvent to clean it. Try windex first, if that doesn't work try a hand cleaner that you buy at the auto parts store. Work either in with an old toothbrush. Next try Carbona for ink.
I found that you can get pretty aggressive with cleaning leather as long as you don't use anything with a volatile nature to it. Then rinse well, dry, and use a good conditioner.
I've used it several times on my Expedition and it cleaned it up nicely.
If you can use it on your skin then you can use it on leather. Again, rinse thoroughly and use a conditioner right away to replace the oils that you removed.
