Re: Saturday morning teaser...

these sound the same as the 08-10 HID lamps. They arent sealed with sealant(later versions starting in late 08) They are heat sealed together. The lens and housings are both heated and treated with chemicals to get a seal....no sealant like the 05-07 and early 08's

Oh well. It was worth the shot though.

Yeah I saw that. I can tell you i got those lights up to damn near 300 degrees for 20 minutes and the glue never softened up. Im pretty sure the glue Valeo used is a different composition that can withstand the heat.

The only thing that's interesting about the Halos is that, in the pics, they are installed on non-HID headlight housings. MAAAAAAYBE the glue used in the non-HID housings is different from the glue used in the HID-housings?

Re: Saturday morning teaser...

depending on how the plastic lens fit into the housing with the glue/sealant, they probly used a heated tip instrument the allowed the lens to melt at the base. i did that with my fogs.

i took a high power soldering gun and used a flat tip and slowly/carefully followed the edge to open them up.

takes a steady hand.
if i had a wk2 i'd try it, or maybe if they have aftermarket lamps available

I thought about doing that too, using a hot-knife tool. On the WK2, the lens fits into the housing via a tongue-and groove type of mount.

Not saying it CANT be done, but I wasnt willing to destroy that seal just to paint the bezels black.

I agree 100% with you. esp since you have the projector headliamps.
I might search for a set and do it for somebody.
