I'll just throw my two cents into the mix. Personally I love the new front end. At least on a dark colored Laredo with the halogen lamps (mine is really the only one I've seen in real life).
Granted, I like the old 2011-13 full-chrome grille too, but I actually like the new one better. I think it looks more upscale, while at the same time still looking badass and standing out from the crowd.
But, maybe I'm just biased because I own one.
I will say this though, whether you like the new front end or not, I do think the whole Compass comparison is kinda silly:
- A grille is not the only distinguishable factor of a car.
- The grilles share similarities, but definitely do not look identical, and the only time a person might, might
mistake the GC for a Compass is if you're looking at it directly head on. And even then I'd recommend you consider setting an appointment with the eye doctor.
- The Compass body colored chrome ringed grille actually is the in my opinion sole attractive design element of that car, so at least the 2014 WK2's grille has similarities with an attractive part of the Compass, and not all the other unattractive parts.
- The 2011-2013 grille could be considered dated even before the 2014s came out. There have been many occasions that from afar and head-on I've mistaken a WK for a WK2 and vice versa (and I'm not a fan of the WK styling either).
Finally, vehicles, and everything really, should be judged for what they are, not for what other vehicles/things are. Otherwise it's kind of like saying the hot blonde girl next door is so totally ugly and you wouldn't be caught dead with her because there's this ugly girl you know who also has blonde hair, so that makes the hot blonde haired girl ugly too because she's got blonde hair.
