I don't see how any impartial person could reject the notion that the '14 is inferior to the '11-13. The '14 is an absolute improvement to an already fantastic truck. Anyone with the means, and the still strong '11-13 resale values, should look into trading up.

I don't think anyone is saying the '14 is an inferior version of the truck it replaces. I think everyone agrees the new 8sp is a huge, and needed, upgrade. As the interior with all the updated tech and refinements are a welcome improvement.

However, I think some people, including myself, just think the front and rear of the '11-'13 WK2's looked better than the new version.

That's my take and opinion on the refresh at least.

Opinions on looks are like arguing what the best color is, everyone will have a different opinion. I personally think the new ones are a nice 'update' and really made a phenominal truck better, somehow. To me, it was enough of a difference to look more modern, but minor enough that you can still see the resemblence. The untrained eye wouldn't even notice all the differences. Biggest upgrades (as mentioned) are the interior and 8speed. Aside from that, it's all just a 'facelift'.

I don't think it's a matter of inferiority. It's personal preference. I certainly have the means to trade mine in and purchase a '14, however I don't like throwing money away, and that's how I'd feel if I did so. The major upgrades (8 speed and interior electronics) just aren't significant enough. I REALLY hate that grill. I'm sure that wasn't a complaint amongst WK2 owners.

Aren't the 11'-13 resales still REALLY great? You could argue there is no better time to trade in or sell private and then buy a '14.. Especially when you consider how stabilized the '14 values will (likely) be, among all of the other improvements you will get to enjoy.

Re: Saw 1st 2014 Today ... NOT Impressed!

I understand why some people don't like the looks of the front end and back end of the '14 as compared to the '11-'13, but that's pretty subjective, and folks will just have to learn to agree to disagree about that. What I think is that when you're driving either one you'll be looking at the back end of the car in front of you and the front end of the car behind you. And I don't think many who have driven both will argue that the '14 isn't a superior driving experience, and that's what it's all about to me, and I would think many more of you than not. So I'm extremely glad the '14 is what it is.

Oh all the time...

I'm on multiple forums, so I get random requests all the time.

Try as I might...I just do not like the new front end. I like the rear, and I love the changes on the inside and the new infotainment options, instrument cluster, etc. I'm sure the 8 speed makes the V6 much smoother to drive, and the diesel is a great new option.

But, I just don't like the new front clip. To me its less masculine, less aggressive which is what I really like about the WK2. The shorter grille, and the wraparound "smiley" look just doesn't do it to me, especially from 1/4 angles. For some reason too the interior options don't excite me up in the Overland/Summit range with the loss of the Saddle interior, and the exterior trim changes on the Summit model don't excite me at all.

I'm sure it's a great upgrade, but for me that magic attraction I had with the 11-13 just isn't there. Not sour grapes...I could go upgrade to a 2014 tomorrow if I wanted to...I'm gonna stick with what I have for another 1.5 years or so and think about getting something with 3 rows. Grand Wagoneer maybe if it exists, or maybe an Infiniti JX...
Yes, this is what I was I thinking, except the 3 row seat thing and the Infinity. After looking at the new 2014's, I know I'm good with what I have until the next round when they actually make some engine changes and so on. A bigger screen and some of the other toys are nice, but not nice enough to justify trading in what I have for it. The 8 speed trans I'm sure is really nice, so I can only image it will be even nicer on a turbo charged V6 version. And I also heard they are working on 6 piece camera system for each tire, front and rear views. Similar to what Land Rover uses. As good as everyone thinks the electronics are in the 2014, they are bound to be even better in the near future.

I never said it was inferior, its a huge improvement over the 11-13 in many ways...I just don't care for the new front clip. If I were buying a WK2 right now, I'm not saying I would buy a 2013 over a 2014...but I am saying I might not wind up in the Jeep if I were buying one today, whereas when I got my 2011, the Jeep was clearly the vehicle I wanted.

The 2014 doesn't click with me the way the 2011 did when I was shopping, and I certainly don't feel compelled to upgrade.

I'm sure it is a superior driving experience. However, I don't want to buy a vehicle that I have to tell myself "I don't have to look at the outside when I'm driving it". I want the whole package, I want it to have the driving experience I want, the tech stuff I want, and I want to love how it looks.

My 2011 drives great, tech isn't great but its okay, and I love how it looks...so is the tech enough to make me upgrade into something that I'm never going to love how it looks? Since tech wasn't why I wanted the Jeep in the first place, no.
