Yep, thats exactly whats missing with me. That instant connection with the vehicle I just don't feel with the '14.

I don't see how SW03ES is getting defensive or arguing in his posts. I think he's simply stating his opinion in regards to the look of the new '14 JGC, with no bearing on anyone else's outlook.

Nothing wrong with that.

And honestly, he literally has written exactly how I feel about the refresh. The 2011 brought me into the showroom and forced me to compare it to the ML350 and even the LR RRS to a point, as a lower cost alternative.

With the '14, I don't have the same feeling.

That's all. Nothing more, nothing less.

EDIT - We're still considering the '14 JGC. Definitely the V6 and it's down to the Overland or Summit. I want the H/K sound system not offered on the OL but I HATE the chrome/shiny wheels found on the Summit.

Re: Saw 1st 2014 Today ... NOT Impressed!

Both of those posts were about the opinion that I had expressed and I responded to them in a very calm conversational manner, further articulating my own opinion. As you can see from MD boy's post above, you seem to be the one sensing defensiveness here...I assure you there is none. Your continued barrage at me is going to change that though very shortly. I suggest you drop it and talk about the vehicle.

I'm sure the 2014 will sell very well. As I said before, several times, its a great vehicle made greater by the 2014's enhancements. It just doesn't have the same magic for me the previous model did.

I had a similar experience where I saw the 2013's on the Lot's when I started looking for a new SUV. I looked at Explorers and Durango's. When I went to the lot to check out the Durango's I saw the Jeep's front end and fell in love.

I started doing some research and saw the 14 was coming out with the higher tow rating, new electronics package, interior and exterior refresh. It just didn't make sense to me to pickup the 13 at that point. I could have gone with either exteriors though. They both look great to me.

Re: Saw 1st 2014 Today ... NOT Impressed!

Yeah like I said, if I were buying one now I would not forego the improvements in the 2014 just to have the front clip from the 2013...

Re: Saw 1st 2014 Today ... NOT Impressed!

The only 14's I seem to like are the white overlands.. Those are damn nice.. Maybe I am bias to white since I have a white 12 limited with the 20'a that are about the same as the overland 20's but I do like the white overlands alot. They almost look slightly meaner than other colors. Not sure why, maybe the dark headlights on white look meaner? Other colors just don't do it for me.. So my opinion, unless its a white overland, I like my 12 better..

Re: Saw 1st 2014 Today ... NOT Impressed!

Maybe adding the Summit grill to the Overland on the '14 might do the trick for me.

Here's a little photo shopped pic in black. I wonder if it's easy to replace the grill on the new JGC's? I remember hearing it being a complete PITA on previous version.

Re: Saw 1st 2014 Today ... NOT Impressed!

I have to say that the one thing missing with the '14 GC is a better selection of light colors. I've never owned a black or white car, and never will, that's just a personal preference (maybe something to do with a bad experience in my childhood), everyone is entitled to their own preferences. But the cashmere pearl I saw on other vehicles at the dealership looked like a tan '72 Dodge to me from a distance, not quite as bad up close, but very bland. They need to get some new colors next year. I wish I could wait until then, but I can't, do to circumstances beyond my control. I like the billet silver, but would have rather had a bright silver, or maybe something like a champagne silver pearlcoat (GM color)or even the khaki of my wife's Compass. I guess Mick Jagger was right when he said, "You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you just might find, you get what you need".

I don't think there is butthurt, just preferences.

Try as I might...I just do not like the new front end. I like the rear, and I love the changes on the inside and the new infotainment options, instrument cluster, etc. I'm sure the 8 speed makes the V6 much smoother to drive, and the diesel is a great new option.

But, I just don't like the new front clip. To me its less masculine, less aggressive which is what I really like about the WK2. The shorter grille, and the wraparound "smiley" look just doesn't do it to me, especially from 1/4 angles. For some reason too the interior options don't excite me up in the Overland/Summit range with the loss of the Saddle interior, and the exterior trim changes on the Summit model don't excite me at all.

I'm sure it's a great upgrade, but for me that magic attraction I had with the 11-13 just isn't there. Not sour grapes...I could go upgrade to a 2014 tomorrow if I wanted to...I'm gonna stick with what I have for another 1.5 years or so and think about getting something with 3 rows. Grand Wagoneer maybe if it exists, or maybe an Infiniti JX...
I'll mention that it was the announcement of the 2014 Grand Cherokee refresh that piqued my interest in upgrading from a Patriot to a GC. My full intention was to purchase a 2014. I test-drove a 2013 and a 2014, and I just couldn't get past the styling of the 2014. I could have purchased one, but my preference was the 2013. There wasn't much more that a 2014 could offer than a 2013. The differences were negligible. It's a refresh, not a redesign, people!

I agree, looks awesome in white! My only dislike is the mirror caps are not color matched...but that's not a difficult fix.

:::Must not stare at this pic or 14 white Overland will be in my posession and more money spent!::::
