Saw New Cherokee, Just Might Give up the Grand for this Next Year!

Pollard Motors in Boulder has a number of new Cherokees on the lot. Checked out a Trailhawk with dark brown leather and V6. Might give up the 2012 Grand Cherokee in a year or so for this ... after the 1st year 'debugging"!

Actually did see it today as well on the road. Somebody was driving from the dealership as the car had temporary plates.

Was not a big fan of the look but in person actually is not bad. I think the look might actually grow on me. The other thing that I noticed is that it is much smaller than I thought it is. Kind of Subaru Forester/Ford Escape size.

I'm not sure how well this car will do in the market. Two issues for me. MPG ... 28hwy is nothing to write home about where competition is getting low 30s. Also this car isn't exactly cheap.

Re: Saw New Cherokee, Just Might Give up the Grand for this Next Year!

I rode in one today and felt very quiet/refined. The rear view camera is big screen and lines curve with the wheel to show where the edges of the car will go. Nice.

Was a "Florida special" FWD and V6 so no spare tire. Major difference is that I can see over the roof and do not need my side rails step to get in. Nice for the height impaired.

Trans is bit of a gimmick (if the step between the gears is less than the torque converter multiplication then you are going backwards) but did seem very smooth.

Re: Saw New Cherokee, Just Might Give up the Grand for this Next Year!

My wife and I drove a Limited and a Trailhawk with V-6s this weekend. The interior was nice, and electronics very cool! The front-wheel-drive Limited was uninspired. The Limited with 4WD was much better, especially in sport mode. Having driven a Wrangler Sahara for 17 years she really liked the ride any Trailhawk.

Although it was a very nice vehicle, it's still pales compared to my Overland. A top of the line Cherokee MSRPs for $40K, which is expensive. But you get more in the Cherokee than the competitors for about the same cost.

Re: Saw New Cherokee, Just Might Give up the Grand for this Next Year!

I sat in a Limited today at the Stealership. It is not a bad vehicle, the front fascia grew on me but it is no bigger (in fact it felt smaller inside and also smaller in cargo capacity) than a Subaru Forester.

Surely a Trailhawk comes with more off-road capabilities than a Forester but that top-of-the-line model aside, is the Cherokee more car than the Subaru? It has better interior finish than my 2009 Forester and has more electronics and toys than my Forester. But I have not sat in the 2014 Forester but I have seen pictures.

I have a feeling any average buyer will end up with a (turbocharged) Forester over the Jeep Cherokee unless the buyer is in the market for the Trailhawk or a Limited, exclusively and really has that mountain cabin deep in the woods that requires 4-LO to get to.

I was at the dealership today getting the recall updates performed. Was NOT impressed with the Cherokee. It's just blah styling. Even the Trailhawk.

I thought about waiting for the Trailhawk. I really like the electronics and the interiors.

Re: Saw New Cherokee, Just Might Give up the Grand for this Next Year!

I have seen a couple (one on a dealer lot, one in a parking lot I was walking through) and thought these things:

Smaller than expected but not too small
Styling still isn't my favorite but looks better in person.
Looks to have a decent level of refinmenet

Overall if someone is looking at CRV,Rav4, Escape, Equinox, etc. looks like it would be a good alternative vehicle.

My dad just picked up an Anvil V6 Trailhawk this past weekend. It's really quite nice inside and out.

Although not my favorite, good to see they come with a decent tire.

Re: Saw New Cherokee, Just Might Give up the Grand for this Next Year!

I saw one at the dealer the other day. Easily one of the most hideous vehicles I've seen in years. I cannot believe anyone woul consider trading a GC in on one.
