SD Card and iTunes

I'm pretty sure I can drop all my music onto an SD card from iTunes. But, has anyone gotten the playlists as well?

Anyone using the SD slot on their JGC?

Music purchased through iTunes or mp3 files you've added to iTunes?

Re: SD Card and iTunes

Both and playlists. I read today about a Mac app called PlaylistExporter that supposedly will export all to SD card and work with Uconnect.

Will try it out tonight.

Can iTunes purchases be played on uconnect without any conversion? I believe the format is M4A.

Re: SD Card and iTunes

I just drag/drop to create playlists in VLC from songs on the SD card, then execute a bash script I wrote to change the links to relative paths. In fact, I tweaked the script to use rsync to sync over all the MP3's in my iTunes library to the SD card (preserving the artist/album folder structure) while leaving my Apple Lossless files behind.

Makes maintenance easier, though I have to say the Jeep UI gets a little laggy with 60 GB worth of MP3s. I got this SD card, which claims 45 MBps. I may eventually try to upgrade to a 128 GB with a faster IO rate, but I suspect it may be the head unit that is the bottleneck.

In fact, now that I have this solution I will probably let the SXM subscription expire because the music is highly compressed vs the quality of the music on my SD card. That, and I have become spoiled—SXM rarely is playing anything I want to listen to at any given instant, whereas I have my whole iTunes library at my fingertips on the SD card.

Re: SD Card and iTunes

I have this Sony card, and I can say that the bottleneck is the Uconnect unit. It makes no difference if I use this card or when I used so low class crap I had lying around.

Re: SD Card and iTunes

Ok, this is going to take a few days. Damn pre-2009 DMR m4p files!!!!

I downloaded a converter and convert all 672 tracks to MP3.

I also download M3Unify which is working pretty well. Playlists aren't showing on SD card in Jeep, but I chose the OS/Unix format for the m3u file, so I'll try a diff format tonight.

But, first, need to rebuild playlists with the newly convert MP3 files.

Yes, m4a ok, M4p purchased (post-2009) ok, m4p protected (pre-2009) not ok.

Re: SD Card and iTunes

Ok, finally got somewhere last night, but not without more headaches.

Turns out all the protected AAC files i converted to MP3 wouldn't copy over to m3unify (Doug's Scripts).

So, I gave up on all that and just created folders on the sd card and dragged over the songs (being careful not to pull an protected AAC files).

Now the only issue is, I can't shuffle in the folders. It shuffles all the songs.

Has anyone figured out shuffle and folders yet. I am running uconnect 14.25.
