I think there may be a confusion among left hand and right hand drive Jeeps. Is the original battery always under the front right seat?

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

Yes, OEM battery is under front right seat as you are sitting in the car regardless of L/R drive. The left front seat will either be empty or have a number of electrical modules.

The rear seats have some unused space between the sitting surface and floor that could be taken advantaged of.

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

Yea, the area under the right front seat is my stock battery and the same compartment under the left front seat is full of my QL electronics. There is some open space under the rear passenger bench that I might be able to take advantage of.

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

The space under our back seats got filled with recovery gear and umbrellas......
Try turning the spare upside down - that's what Aussie VW Touareg owners have done to fit a spare battery.
I didn't want to carry all the stuff all the time so that's why my second battery goes in and out with the fridge.

Makes sense. Right now, I just have a small tool bag and recovery bag in the trunk area. Not using the space under the passenger bench. I'll see if I can take a few pics and measurements and see about maybe fitting a semi-large odyssey battery under there on it's side or something.

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

Lol I'm talking about the rear passenger bench (I don't think the bench moves when you fold down the back). John is talking about putting it on top of the main battery under the right front seat (passenger seat in the US).

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

The WJ, and perhaps WK, rear bench moved when folding the seat back. The WK2 rear bench doesn't move much when the seat backs are folded flat .

Sorry I must have been misinterpreted - I haven't suggested putting a second battery on top of the main battery........and the rear bench does move down as the backs fold.
I've built a special module that slides in the back and holds the fridge, set of drawers and table and chairs, for when we are travelling. This module has a place for my second battery and Dc-Dc charger. When poodling around town it all comes out.
I did suggest a possible spot for a second battery was to turn the spare wheel upside down in the well and use the space inside. I've seen that done successfully with the VW Touareg.

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

Here is my set up for both rear draw system and second battery

I have ARK Battery Box - containing inverter, and charging monitoring system, and cooling fan.

Battery box is located behind the second row of seats (passenger side - Australia)

I've only had my JGC Laredo for about four weeks and I've been looking at places to permanently mount a second battery. I haven't dug under the passenger seat yet (SWMBO wouldn't be too happy about me pulling apart the new car just yet) but I have been looking at the storage space on the RHS in the cargo area.

If I can get my hands on a replacement section of trim for that area I think it would be possible to fit a reasonable second battery in that space.

Until then it'll just be the second battery in a box in front of the fridge like everyone else has.
