Lightbulb Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

First I want to say I have been searching and am including my findings below. I have not found a viable solution yet for a location to put an aux battery in my WK2 V8 Overland.

I just got back from a local shop and they and I are stumped... When you open the hood, you find absolutely no space under it with the V8 taking up most of it. Everyone with Quadra-lift can't utilize the space under the drivers seat that mirrors the battery box under the passenger's seat. All of the electronics for the air lift are in there.

I'm not done yet with it though. I have 2 spots left. I am curious as to what is behind the panel on the driver's side across from the subwoofer panel (the first picture). The second spot I'm unsure is by the spare tire area.

Here are my findings so this is all in 1 thread:

Jeeperskreepers posted a similar post last year:
Secondary Battery

Seems like everyone is talking about a "detachable" battery solution to either use when you need it or mounted on a trailor. Though, from this thread, John47 posted an interesting link to a guy who found a rather strange place to mount the battery lol...

Caravaners Forum • View topic - new grand jeep cherokee v6 diesel??????

I would end up ripping that out of the bottom the first rock i go over though.

This is where the main battery is located btw...

Under the hood reveals no space for the V8:

This is the V6. It has a little more room in the front but that would probably be a hot area...

There has gotta be some space in this thing to fit a spare battery

The shop said that if I put on an aftermarket cold air intake and cut it short, I could mount a battery where the stock intake is now. I really don't want to do that because it may be too close to the engine and suck in hot air instead. Anyway, I need to sit on this one for a little. I would really appreciate any ideas!!!

Could you run the cold air intake the other direction and use the stock air box location for the battery? I've seen pictures of a CAI going opposite side from stock. Then again maybe I'm confusing the layout in my 4.7 and the Hemi

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

If your going to use a drycell ,wich im sure you are you can mount one or two on the under side of the spare tire , somehow mount a duel battery box underneath

https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/i...Gs9bcpQQrzdBRp
or like you said in the rear drivers side may have so space

http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server27....1280.1280.jpg

May I ask why you need two ,because you may just need to upgrade the one you have with a yellow top battery , I had one in my Expedition with a Winch and a high amperage stereo system and it worked out very well.

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

You should look into smaller batteries. They make smaller ones designed for use in car audio that could fit into some very small places. If you're basically looking for a "oh shit I ran the battery out in the woods and need to start" sort of thing, one or two of those might be enough to start the truck up in a pinch. Just would need to have it isolated and such for use in emergencies.

I have an ARK battery box mounted behine the rear seat in the cargo area only placpe i could find.
The battery box has a mounting kit so it will not fall over but if needed easiely removed only down side is takes up some room in the cargo area

Everyone I see goes toward the Driver's side. Yesterday, my shop suggested doing that and cutting the intake pipe short in order to free up the space where the filter normally goes. But that would in essence be a "hot-air" intake at that point.

My main purpose at first will be to just "jump-start" myself as I have no accessories yet. But I'm trying to future proof this as much as I can from the start. Later on, I will have lights and a fridge hooked up to it. And who knows what else.... lol.

I would LIKE to add a yellow top as an aux. I need to pull the spare out and maybe pop that panel out from drivers side trunk area and see what i'm dealing with.

I'm thinking about heading over to a local car audio shop since they deal with electrical stuff and leave the off-road stuff to the place I went to last night. Maybe they can use their fiberglass sub-box skills and build me a panel where the stupid *** flashlight in the rear is that will hold a full size battery. I could even carpet it in black and it would look factory. I think this will be my best bet at this point and it shouldn't be as expensive as installing a full blown sound system that a lot of people spend their money on... - See how I have to say it to justify spending money??? So now I gotta make yet another appointment... lol.

Re: Secondary Battery Ideas!!!

Man that sounds like a great idea! Let us know how it turns out! I will definitely get a yellow top in a the near future cause I'll be installing the R R winch in the front bumper! But love to see some custom installs!

you may want to check out this article . It uses a smaller battery (pcs680 ) along with a larger one ( could be a yellow top or other )

I wouldn't see the need for 2 unless you are competing in SPL.

We used to run 2 to winch. It didn't draw down your main battery. Plus we had to use one to help get a fellow jeeper off the trail when his alternator went bad.

If you run a lot of lights as well

Yea, lol. I plan on having Rigid Industries all around. Just on the front, I want 2 6" (amber) on each side of the ACC(Adaptive Cruise Control) behind the lower grill, 20" (white) on the bumper, maybe a SR series 10" (Amber) on the bumper on top of the 20". And to top it off, I will end the front with a 40" or 50" (White) above the windshield on the roof rack. But that's far out. All of these E-series btw. So I want the power to run them independently of the Jeep. I'm fine with the Main battery leaving it alone. I might upgrade it down the road when I buy a winch and hook the winch to the upgraded main.

Take a look at that system I posted earlier . It would work well for you and what you have in mind . It may be a bit more expensive but you are saving a boat load of room.
