Yep, I had this. Just firmly hold to "I stick to what the manual says" and that will be the end of it. Never get the dealer X mile package, they're all designed to push this crap. The manual doesn't require all that much maintenance, so know what you're supposed to do and do it.

I just chalk this up to the usual subpar service Jeep delivers where you get the attitude you would expect with a $15k car for a $50k+ vehicle.

No, it's not published in-house. Check the fine print or the address it was sent from if you have one laying around to look at.

Re: Service Interval Scams

Seems the same third party call to let you know your Dealer is in "desperate need of good used Jeep (in our case),I just thank them with a where to go,how to do it,and in short jerky motions.
Can honestly say,the Dealership I have used for many many years never try to upsell me on anything, besides, like others,I take the time to be informed on our vehicles.
I do agree some Dealers scruples seem alittle lost,I once listened patiently to a Service Advisor hang himself, with what he thought was sage and trustworthy advice on a Chevy pickup truck,i once owned, once he finished,I mentioned,in a friendly manner, "your full of sh** buddy*" and explained why.He did have the decency to apologies and claimed the Service Manager was "pushing these services",how true it was,who knows.
I know this does appear to be the "norm"and this practice is everywhere,I just count myself lucky I consider my chosen Dealership to have scruples and want to take care of us.New business is good business but the best business is repeat business, seems to be the mantra where I go.Never had a horror story from my wife when she takes the Jeeps in when I can't.Can only remember her calling me once on a battery I wanted replaced on our Wrangler.$145 including install.
Have read about some terrible story's,fortunately have never been on the receiving end.
To me,it just doesn't make sense pissing off your customer base. But what do I know?

Differentials don't have a change intervals for normal use just a check. But not near the expense with changing these as with the trans. But just don't let him tell you there is a requirement for a change at 60k or that the maintenance schedule states that because it does not.
And thats the bottom line !!!

Re: Service Interval Scams

Just a follow up on my previous post,Silvermax and Jim make some excellent points, and it is VERY sad that some Dealerships do clearly take advantage of their customers.Know you vehicle, know your vehicle, know your vehicle.READ the owners manual, sure it's boring to MOST,(obviously not boring to us Jeep fanatics and those mechanically inclined),but it saves money and the feeling of being taken advantage of.As sad as it is,most ladies are viewed as easy targets,as are some younger guys,(reason I mention these two demographics I read in a forum some years ago, entitled "the dishonest dealers favorite past time" and ladies and younger guys were the most prominent"),I consider myself fortunate with the Dealership I use.
Although we shouldn't have to,and should be able to trust our Dealerships across the country,it comes down to,read the supplied manuals and RELY on these forums as owners are happy to help pull someone else's ass out of the fire.I have noted some very grateful owners when reading thru these threads.
Ain't it great so many people willing to help others for no reward, just so they CAN.How cool is that.

GOTCHA...AGAIN is on a distinguished road
Re: Service Interval Scams

I bet I've really got your attention now! Think about it for a minute. If all four of your tires on your vehicle are identical, then how do you really know if they were really rotated? You absolutely don't know. By nature you just trust the word and ethics of a big dealership...like Moritz Dodge over here in Fort Worth, Texas.

Believe it or not but today I actually marked my front passenger tire with 1 red dot and 1 white dot right above the first "r" in Grappler and took a picture of it before I went to the dealership to have my tires rotated. Can you guess what I saw when they said my truck was ready? I walked straight over to the front passenger tire to look for the dots and yes they were there. I honestly felt my face instantly get hot I was so pissed! I pulled my phone out and pulled up the picture...I forgot to mention the picture had the date and time stamp on it. I walked straight over to the manager and showed him the picture while letting him know that I just now paid to have my tires rotated and asked him "does it look like my tires where rotated to you?" He was shocked that his guys never rotated my tires and informed me there would definitely be consequences for this.

Even while all this was happening I couldn't help but to begin thinking of all the other times I paid to have my tires rotated...and I only thought they were rotated! That infuriates me to the core!

There are millions of vehicles going through these dealerships and let's not forget about the small "mom and pop" automotive centers that are suppose to be providing us with the service that we are paying for....IF YOU DON'T FIND A WAY TO ENSURE YOU'RE GETTING THE SERVICE YOU'RE PAYING FOR, THEY WILL FIND A WAY TO KEEP RIPPING YOU OFF BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL.

***BE AWARE OF SERVICES THAT YOU PAY FOR***
TAKE THE SMALL STEPS THAT YOU CAN TO ENSURE YOU'RE NOT BEING RIPPED OFF!
I VERY MUCH BELIEVE THAT EVERYBODY SHOULD BE TREATED FAIR.

While you are here... how difficult was it to change those fluids?
