Service Manual

Chrysler does not seem to want to release any service information on the WK2. Am not going into my opinion of that decision but am slowly amassing a collection that exceeds 100 MB.

TechAuthority does have this:
MT201108 August 2011 Master Tech Release
Course Description: The August release of Master Tech explores the new powertrain for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler; the 3.6 liter Pentastar engine and W5A580 transmission. Fuel system updates are also covered including the new capless fuel system and evaporative system diagnosis.

This sounds like the same powertrain that is in my WK2 but for $195.00 would like to know if anyone here has seen it and how much specific information does it contain ? (torque values, clearances, etc.).

BTW the Haynes GGC 2005-2009 manual (electronic or print) is very useful and inexpensive, just ignore references to the engine.

Haynes said they are working on some things for release in September but if Chrysler follows past (dumb </rant>) policies, they will only release 2010 model information.

My question was whether this $195 CD from Tech Authority contains anything that was not already available on AllPar & WK2 e.g. bearing cap torques.

I am collecting data from a lot of different sources & is slowly painting a complete picture. For example one TSB went into issues with debris remaining in the engine. Another mentioned that the PentaStar has no freeze plugs which are used following machining to clean out debris . Both together describe more than either.

For $17, the Haynes 2009 WK manual was good if just for the wiring information & color codes but also had some info on the NAG1/W5A580 trans.

I have service manuals for all my other cars, partly because I have little trust for dealers, partly because I am single and have a day job which makes it difficult to get to a dealer, partly because I have better things to do than sit around for a sensor wire to get reconnected, but mainly because I am often places where there is neither a dealer not a converient tow.

Also because there is a lot of infornation about proper sensor values and operating ranges. I learn smething every time I read one.

And on the gripping hand I wonder what Chrysler is trying to hide. All the other manufacturers make service manuals available to owners. Sometimes they are not cheap, but are available.

In the meantime I am going to keep looking for information and my track record says I will find it (particularly since willing to pay for it). Won't be the first computer program I have reverse engineered either.

I think it is a german/mercedes influence. It is tough getting a factory service manual for a Mercedes, they are data files that the Mercedes service software can read, but is a chore to decipher without. That and the specialized tools turned me away from Mercedes years ago. Hopefully over the next couple of years chrysler will open up again.

Yeah you need an IBM compatible PC running special plug ins and it usually takes 5-7 years for tech info to show up there for a new model.

So you have to buy a PC just to discover the tech data falls short ... used to be a common complaint in the MB forums... but things may have changed over the past three years or so.

Does not match with my experience. My PC is at least seven years old and I had no problem getting the info the same year I bought the car (2009).

a) one thing I have lots of is computers: desktops, notebooks, netbooks, & tablets. DOS, Windows, MAC, Android. Deelopment capability for Motorolla 68xx & xxx (GM powertrain). Suspect am one of the few BIOS programmers left.
b) is 84 in-lb main or rod cap (suspect rod - aluminum rods ?) That was just an example.
c) looked like the difference was mainly accessory mounting points (alternator on left instead of right). Suspect as many differences between 2011 and 2012 GC 3.6s.
d) I do not expect to find everything in one source, is why have collected about 100 MB of data already. Most needed is a current wiring diagram and sensor locations. Troubleshooting section also usually includes typical values from sensors. Wiring list posted on wk2 is just the audio. An accessory code list would be nice also (seems to be a three a-n digit code followed by s-standard(?) p-production(?) or a-accessory(?).)

I am slowly pulling all of this together, it is what I do, but would be a lot simpler if the factory would decide it has nothing to hide. It is understood that some elements would be obsolete before release (why I look for final service manuals rather than preliminary).

Have over 25 feet of service manuals (not counting electronic) here now, couple more is NP. Would make answering questions (my stress reliever) a lot easier (missed the variable rather than switched blower motor control in the question about adding ATC).

Have also been involved with cars for a long time (am a GMI grad) and have learned to spot inconsistancies and like to play with my cars (since Chysler keeps delaying, am building my own CAI to try to control IAT which IMNSHO is too high, 100F is a "sweet spot" and seeing 120-140, stock air cleaner & snorkle looks good for 3.6, I see about 1/2 psi IMAP drop at 6300 rpm, rest looks about 40" of 3" thin wall with a few bends. Am curious why the throttle body is at the back of the engine, would be even worse in a transverse installation unless the air cleaner is in the wiper cavity).

Point is that we can all either work together or work seperately. Either is fine & will reach the same end point but the former would save time. Being lazy I like that.
