I got your point, it just wasn't applicable to the convo you quoted...we were discussing how to handle the capability to hang out the door and look at where you are backing for those situations when the mirrors/camera don't cut it like pitch black back in parking, low trailers, etc... but you got stuck on guaranteeing it's in P....

Original point by silvermax04:

“Be nice if they put a temp override in uconnect for backing. Check a box which disables auto park until the next vehicle startup cycle. Not likely but it would have helped, the seat belt thing will work for many and does inject some sense into the auto park.”

My point:

agree, if it's a feature that the operator must select then FCA should be "protected"...

Your response quoting our convo but not applicable to the specific convo only making an obvious statement:

"Don't we currently have a PARK feature that the operator must select prior to leaving the vehicle? Shouldn't that protect FCA?"

Your response to above talking the original shifter problem that we were beyond by talking about a “temp override…for backing”…

“I did read about the suggested application. My comment was to compare the original shifter problem where FCA should be protected if users don't place their vehicle in park vs. the user selected auto park disable suggestion that Silver max made, to which you suggested that FCA should be protected.”

That's what these are for -

I wonder if the overriding the seat belt alarm tick will get around this too.

I suppose that if people want to bypass safety devices then let's hope that no-one else apart from themselves get hurt.

Re: Shifter Confusion killed Anton Yelchin!!!

As others have mentioned, bypassing may be a real requirement for those off road, not just some random reason. I have the seatbelt alarm disabled simply because I don’t have the seatbelt on frequently. Our driveway is 150m long, so to and from the front gate, no belt, and the alarms is annoying as hell.

Re: Shifter Confusion killed Anton Yelchin!!!

The shifter on MY14 one of the best ive had ever. Every thing else is boring!

Now i do see how u can easily forget to put it in park and leaving it in N instead. Has happened to me and each time i do i notice it because i cant turn off engine since im in N but i normally have park break.

I don't. Sorry. I see it as carelessness. Or laziness. Take your pick.

So, how many people have done the software update for auto P. I have appointment for next week but I'm confuse now if I'll be able to open the door while the car still in motion at lower speed in my driveway.

This is from a side discussion on wishful thinking for a feature, nothing to do with reality.....

It has been reported by someone who did have the recall done that below 1.2mph with other conditions, NO cannot open door without Auto-Park taking over. However, it appears that maybe with seatbelt clicked you can open door.

Ok, My f30 bmw 335i also has kind of the same auto park stuff and I hate it because if you start moving pass 1.5mph with the door open it will go to park and boy I feel for the transmission the hit it take when it happens
