Re: Shifter recall coming

I'm not letting the dealer touch my GC until something is wrong. Me not paying attention is not worth them screwing up my vehicle. It's a lease anyway and I don't think I will be one of those idiots to exit a vehicle without making sure it's in park.

Like someone said earlier in the thread, I am not a big fan of the Baggie look on the new shifter but I think I would rather have it than the "problem shifter design" the article calls it.

Quote from article,

The company moved away from the problem shifter design in 2015 for the Charger and 300, and the Grand Cherokee's shift lever was modified for 2016.

Having said that making sure it is in park before jumping out should always happen....

Re: Shifter recall coming

Having gone through the fun of recall on my 2006 Grand Cherokee updating software to fix a transmission issue, count me as being skeptical. During that "fun" I did not have four wheel drive for a year. It took four trips to the dealer, and a lot of phone calls to get it done right.

Re: Shifter recall coming

As expected, a software update to enhance customer satisfaction and make it more foolproof. For me it wasn't an issue, but at least now any concern about another driver or a valet will be alleviated.

Perhaps calling it a "shifter" recall is a bit misleading as the mechanical shifter is not being replaced. Perhaps a shifter software recall is more accurate.

If it were a Tesla, the software would be updated while it sat in your garage without the need for a special trip.

Ill wait and read those two threads before bringing my jeep in

So hope this does not gestate into N23 version 2.0(akin to the failed FDCM reflash the caused a loss of 4low on XKs and WKs).

I am quite comfortable with the shifter but it did happen to me once that the car ended up in Neutral instead of Park (i think i was backing into a space). Don't remember the details but I was like ohh crap. The thing is that I usually apply parking break so that didn't do anything except for the fact that I was not able to turn the car off. Don't recall the details but at that time I could have sweared that I was in Park.

At that time was wondering if I made the mistake or the car didn't take input from shifter or showed me wrong thing briefly. With all the software issues I wouldn't be surprised if there is indeed a software issue. One thing for sure I will not rush to get that recall done.
