Those 2 other cars had gated shifters.

I'm not saying there isn't user error happening and I'm not saying all the blame goes to FCA on this, but I am saying that the design of this shifter is flawed, and apparently they and the NHTSA agree.
This is my primary issue with this shifter. I've never been confused or not known which gear I'm in.

Okay... maybe my 2015 Overland Shifter is broken; because I do not have to press the brake in order to shift from Neutral back into Drive. All I have to do is press the button on the shifter & move in back into Drive.

Exactly. I know what gear I'm in. I'm just annoyed that sometimes I miss the intended gear b/c the shifter has no feel to it.

The shifter looks good and seems more "high" end. It's functionality compared to gated shifter however lacks, there is no doubt about that.

Is it me or did you call yourself an idiot in the 3rd paragraph?

That's why I have a garage and a space heater.
In extreme cases ill use a touch-less which doesn't use a conveyor belt or any type of wheel support for that matter. You're just asking for wheel rash at those places.

I run mine through the touch-less one when I get gas every other week or so. More in the winter, when it's warm enough, to get all the salt and crud off. I won't go through any car wash that touches the car with a brush.

Touchless of course. Do you actually get under the car to clean off everything under there covered in salt? That's dedication if you do, I'll stick with the power wash that sprays up at the car wash.

Back to regularly scheduled program. I got an email from NHTSA this morning with this link: | Safercar | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

Re: Shifter recall coming

So.....software update i am guessing. can't imagine a hardware change. probably going to be set up like the bmw/mini, puts car in park if you open the drivers door or the seat occupancy sensor tells computer there is no weight in drivers seat and puts car in park. Guess the days of driving a car are over, I mean I don't always pay attention but, red circle on the speedo and a beeping noise lets me know I am being stupid and forgetting to put all the way in park.

Re: Shifter recall coming

I found it to be mostly intuitive, but not having the tactile feel of the mechanical shifter is an adjustment. I am not an idiot, but I do get distracted and have had my hand hit the shifter and put it into neutral on accident. that being said there are some clueless people driving on the roads these days.

Re: Shifter recall coming

It is mostly about the feel. I can bump up one "click" three times to P, or up three "clicks" to P from D, but I have definitely had it refuse to go into P on the last bump once or twice and still be in R.

I've also had it go from N to D with the brake, then refuse to do the same other times. Could it refuse to do this if there is any backward (or any) rolling?
