Re: Shifter recall coming

Just so people aren't confused they will not be putting in the new gated shifter from the '16 model. I prefer this b/c although I think the design is flawed I do like the look of this shifter better than the new ones with the connected baggie.

Shifter recall coming

It does go into reverse instead of park for me on occasion. I think this happens if I lift off the button before I have pressed the shifter lever forward all the way. I suspect if I wasn't paying attention I could hop out to get the mail or whatever and have it start moving backwards.

Where does it say what shifter they are going to put in or are you just stating that they aren't and only doing updates to the system to stop it from happening?

"The voluntary recall comes after federal regulators found that drivers were exiting their cars by mistake without selecting "park," despite warning chimes and alert messages when they open the doors. More than 40 injuries that are potentially related to the issue."

"As part of the recall, Fiat Chrysler said it would enhance the warnings and add a transmission-shift strategy to automatically prevent a vehicle from moving, under certain circumstances, even if the driver fails to select "park," the company said."

Sounds like a reflash. No hardware, that's a bummer 😡

Everything I've read so far says that it will be a transmission and computer update. Meaning they won't be replacing anything physically.

Re: Shifter recall coming

FCA got lucky - they apparently were able to convince the NTSB that software alone could remedy the problem, which is way cheaper than replacing 1.1 million shifters. I like my shifter in my '15, although I am only 2 weeks into my new rig.

Re: Shifter recall coming

unfortunately for FCA stupidity is not fixable. All people have to do is look at the indicator or shift knob to see what gear the car is in at any given time.
