Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

If it causes anything it's just a downshift. No different then if you planted your foot down.

As for the manual shifting of gears, by tapping the + | - paddles, that's a whole thread in itself...
If you INSIST on using the shifter paddles, make sure you count the + and - taps, and keep them very close to the same--even if this means you need to spend a few laps around the neighborhood evening out the balance.

Failure to do this can result in a build up of pressure or a severe loss of gear pressure in the transmission and ultimately lead to either exploding or imploding the transmission.

I generally drive in ECO mode, but when I need to jump on it to merge into oncoming traffic I will go into sport and back into ECO once underway.
With Qlift, it also goes to aero height.

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

2014 Eco - I'm still trying to get Sport Mode to do something different, nothing changes, revs to 38-900 in both modes fuel the same, change patterns the same.
It has been it 4-5 times but no fix as yet. It did work with no problems on the run but now just a light flag on the dash.

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

No problem...you're just selecting a different piece of software code that controls shifting, etc., as well as lowering to Aero Mode if you have QL. "Pushing the button" doesn't make any mechanical changes.

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

Jim, Up to approx. 8000k's the revs ran to 43-4400 RPM in sport (as do 2 others I know of) now no difference (no QL) & a set of the pants feeling, not what a computer tells me. Jeeps claim of 184Kw @ 4000??

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

I'm not clear on what you are asking, Kneecaps...when you select Sport Mode, you're just telling the vehicle to use different software guidance for how it performs. There's no mechanical linkage between that selector and the drivetrain...it's all "ones and zeros". Engine horsepower/kw is what it is. Only the shift points change with Sport Mode and it will stay in a lower gear to a higher RPM before going to the next one for "perkier" performance.

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

Jim in PA
I know its not a manual link, but in Australia it would pull 4300rpm in Sport
& 3900rpm in Drive this does not happen anymore (I know of others that still do)
Jeep claim 184Kw @ 4000rpm therefore if it does not reach 4000rpm how can they make this claim?? Why not say 300Kw at 6000rpm if it does not go there who would know but it would look good on the brochure.
