Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

Which engine will also likely be a factor...while it's the same tranny if you have the Hemi or the EcoDiesel, I strongly suspect that the transmission programming is "optimized" for the particular engine type. RPM/torque/HP-kw all have different intersections on the graph depending on the engine involved and some programing may not permit the RPM to get "up there" in a given gear in some settings. I would think that, in theory, "Sport Mode" would allow it more than "regular", however.

There is nothing wrong with that. You will find the torque curve will have greater influence on shift points. With the electronic transmissions in todays vehicles, they are electronically told when to shift. If infact it is shifting early, could be loads of problems. I think he just has his mind set on the kw (power) rating and where it sits in the rev range.
Torque is far more important than power. Power simply helps maintain the torque. But the diesel has so much torque the power is negated

Thanks bill_de, its that bloody simple
iboughtajeep, 8 gear? yep you would be hooking along, neutral no
& as qualified auto engineer & racer I know a little about engines & therefore I like mine to perform as it was designed to perform.

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

I would think what everyone has already said as ok cause i always drove my SS in sport mode.

Although with the overland i'm still skeptical as far as using it cause a month after i picked her up i was in slow traffic on fwy and changed into sport mode and gave it WOT and engine rev'd so much i had to ease off the gas so it can come back to life(lol) and i can actually move. It felt as if it was about to stall and rev'd so much i was like WTF. I was expecting to get pushed into the seat but wasn't.

Don't know if engine wasn't through the break-in completely or if it was that i still had it in eco mode...or if the nannies were still on....idk.

I generally drive in ECO mode, but when I need to jump on it to merge into oncoming traffic I will go into sport and back into ECO once underway.
Same here.

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

This is all software controlled. If shifting into sport while moving is a problem then it would be impossible (or there is a serious and highly unlikely bug). I use sport at least once on every commute on my v6 as I have no qualms with using every cubic cm of that engine and indeed prefer an engine that is highly utilized and therefore maximally efficient.
