Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

I have a 2014 JGC and I frequently use the shifter to move to Sport mode while moving (different speeds) to give me extra acceleration in times of need.

Is it OK to use the Sport mode like this or will it hurt my transmission?

thanks
joe

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

7,000 miles of shifting into Sport mode while moving...and nothing has fallen out the bottom. I'm gonna guess its designed to do that.

23K miles on a 2014 and I do it all of the time. Eco mode is OK but it takes the life out of the drive... I use the sport mode when getting on the freeway and starting on a hill where the quick upshifts (then downshifts) are annoying...

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

Don't do it man...The sport mode is to be enjoyed only when parked, not on the fly...
As for the manual shifting of gears, by tapping the + | - paddles, that's a whole thread in itself...

If it was harmful I'm sure they would have idiot-proofed it. This is America, after all.

Changing into sport mode simply alters the shifting algorithm. It's not like you are changing any kind of mechanical linkage while at speed.

I generally drive in ECO mode, but when I need to jump on it to merge into oncoming traffic I will go into sport and back into ECO once underway.

Re: Shifting to Sport Mode while moving

Shouldn't be a problem.
I do it all the time, but I have that little voice inside me asking the same question. The manual says its ok. You only need to be in neutral when changing into 4WD Low

Shift to sport at ANY speed. Relax, enjoy.

Its fine, and that's actually what its designed for.

You can even do it in reverse for that extra boost when backing up into a parking spot.

“Of course."

“Well, good god!” he said. “You just backed over that two—foot concrete abutment and you didn’t even slow down! Forty—five in reverse! And you barely missed the pump!"

“No harm done,” I said. “I always test a transmission that way. The rear end. For stress factors.”
