Re: Should General Motors Rescue Fiat a Second Time?

Mr. Marchionne seems to be a bit... random, at times. Maybe I am misreading the other articles regarding this topic, but it seems like it was an idea he put forth and strongly believes in, not a call for help.

When he gets an idea in his head, he seems to almost never give up, at least not until after a long struggle.

I am sorry to say, I hope his idea doesn't pan out. A merger between GM and Fiat/Chrysler would be bad for us consumers. Competition sucks for them at times, but its great for us consumers.

Re: Should General Motors Rescue Fiat a Second Time?

It might be worthwhile if in the long run GM acquired Jeep and Ram and the rest of Fiat went back to Europe. Chrysler without Jeep and Ram could just sink below the Atlantic along the way.

Re: Should General Motors Rescue Fiat a Second Time?

No, GM should not save FCA. Fiat bought Chrysler for a song, and STILL couldn't turn things around.

I say let Fiat/Chrysler rot on the vine, and hope some investment firm buys up Jeep.

I just got a taste of what Fiat has to offer Jeep in future models...I was given a 2015 Renegade as a loaner when I dropped off my 2014 Grand Cherokee yet again for service...what a POS the Renegade is. And I thought my Grand Cherokee had a rough shifting transmission...Jeez ! Only 945 miles on it, and the Renegade isn't even a good rental!

We all saw how that worked out the last time that happened. I do not think Jeep could survive another Private Equity acquisition...

If Cerberus didn't buy Chrysler, Chrysler would have gone under.

Maybe that would have been a good thing in retrospect...

The problem with GM or Ford buying Jeep would be the "watering down" of the Jeep product so as to not eat into existing GM or Fords truck & SUV sales.

Face it, the market is saturated right now when it comes to SUVs...somethings gotta give.

Prove what...that Chrysler posted a worse than expected loss of $2 Billion a month after Daimler annouced the sale to Cerberus, to get Cerberus to even concider the deal Daimler had to throw in an extra $675 Million...that and any merger talks were going nowhere.

Then a year later, GM, Ford & Chrysler applied for Federal aid (and were denied)...what's there to prove?

Re: Should General Motors Rescue Fiat a Second Time?

Good to know Jeep is the golden goose of FCA. I don't think it would be a good idea of GM or Ford buying Jeep or RAM only cause i'm affraid of what they'll do to the brand to expand GM or ford trucks, SUV's.

With that history of fiat and GM i'd say GM should let fiat tank. GM should focus on bringing back pontiac and focus on giving the Camaro their evil twin (Trans Am/Firebird).
