Lightbulb Re: Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

My 2014 Summit (V-6) started with the rough shifting at ~11,000 miles and then got stuck in gear at ~12,700 miles (Error code P076F). I took it into the dealer shop and they did the software flashes for the transmission and other stuff. After an hour or so of working on it, they told me that it still was not up to their expectations and would replace the valve body. I returned the next day (in their loaner car, 2013 Avenger... they didn't have a Hellcat to loan me ) to find the Jeep was ready and as close to perfect as it gets.

I now have about 200 miles on it since the repair, and am duly impressed. The guys did a great job with it. The Service Manager said they are keeping a replacement (redesigned w/ different part number) on hand because they have seen and fixed a few of these with the same problem.

By the way, with all the Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler vehicles I have owned and driven, this is the first transmission problem I have experienced in more than forty years.

Re: Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

interesting read. thanks all. thinking about a '15 JGC and have been thinking V6 (better gas mileage, adequate power, and i don't tow), but if the V8+transmission seems more 'bulletproof' / less issues, maybe worth eating the gas money and going for it.

for perspective i've owned various japanese cars (including lexus) and have a 2006 ford explorer v8 right now which has been very solid  so i'm used to not becoming friends (or enemies) with a dealer.

i've also considered a durango, but seems like it has more room than i need, and is hugely heavy too.

No issues with my Nov 15, 2013 build Limited V6. The transmission works fine, very smooth.

Just had a rental Limited V6 on my vacation and it worked well too throughout our trip - SF, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe. Power was fine, even in the higher elevations. No complaints (except for the 3 fighting kids in the back seat...)

You will definitely not find "Lexus like" reliability or quality in a Jeep that is for sure. I would be in a Lexus today if the didn't decide to go with that whole "hour glass" theme for the front grill that I find FUGLY.

Right around 5,000 miles, my 2014 Overland V6 4x4 started to downshift hard into 1st gear coming to a full stop from a crawl...and there is no "shift improvement" TSBs for the V6 transmissions built after Nov 2013 as of yet.

This is Jeeps last chance for me...if Chrysler doesn't get their shit together quick on this, I'll trade this pig in for something else and never look back at a Jeep again.

In my book it's two strikes and you're out when it comes to a $40,000 vehicle. It's bad enough the service at Jeep dealerships sucks balls.
Does Trans temp have anything to do with it? How about eco/vs sport mode?

Tranny temps should be ~190-210 F; when towing it should not be much higher, if at all.

Incidentally, not all Jeep dealerships (nor their peepz) are bad.

Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

The tranny complaints have caused me to pause and reconsider. Torn between a jeep overland (heart wants) and the subaru outback (mind says to get). Have owned several previous generations of jeeps but nothing recent. Two dealers I'm considering give you a lifetime power train warranty with no deductible...not certain if they are any good.

I can guess the responses to my personal debate *flame retardant on* as I have posted to similar discussions on the outback forums with the same question.

Will add this thread to one I follow.

Tully, I have one of each... Wife drives a 2011 Outback. I have a 2014 JGC Overland. My 3 month old Overland has been in the shop more than my wife's Outback. They are totally different animals, and love the Jeep when it's not in the service dept, but this is my first and last Jeep.

That's what I did. Can't get a 2015 yet though, he'd either have to wait several months or get a leftover 2014 (not that that would be a bad thing!)
