Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

I'm planning on trading my 08 Overland to a 2015 Overland or Summit. I currently have the Hemi but since I don't tow I really don't need the V8. However, with all the problems folks have had with the 845RE trans on the V6, I'm not sure I should go that route. Do you think that for 2015 Jeep will have fixed the issues associated with the trans or should I just bite the bullet and get the Hemi with the 8HP70 trans?

who are those people with V6 power and transmission problems? Yes, there have been a few software updates but I don't recall any glaring tranny issues worthy of a TSB...

Re: Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

I wouldn't by the Hemi just to get a different transmission. Jeep has been getting most of the bugs out of the transmission with software fixes. Whether it's the last '14 built or the first '15, they are probably the same.

For the most part the complaints seemed to have settled down. Will they need another tweak? ... maybe. But the trannny itself seems to be solid.

I am going to go that route and have no concerns about the transmission. My concerns are about the QL, which I have just about resolved. (Okay, maybe one more pill and I'll be cured.)

Re: Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

I THOUGHT all the V6 tranny bugs were worked out for the late build 2014...but I was wrong. It was because of transmission issues that I traded in my first 2014 GC Limited V6 4x4 for my current 2014 Overland.

Right around 5,000 miles, my 2014 Overland V6 4x4 started to downshift hard into 1st gear coming to a full stop from a crawl...and there is no "shift improvement" TSBs for the V6 transmissions built after Nov 2013 as of yet.

This is Jeeps last chance for me...if Chrysler doesn't get their shit together quick on this, I'll trade this pig in for something else and never look back at a Jeep again.

In my book it's two strikes and you're out when it comes to a $40,000 vehicle. It's bad enough the service at Jeep dealerships sucks balls.

I have the same harsh shift issues. Haven't talked to the dealer about it yet. I will when I get it in for an oil change.

Even with that, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 3.6L with the 845RE.

Re: Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

According to my dealer and paperwork I have all the Transmission updates and still have at times issues with harsh downshifting, and also odd up shifting problems still linger, I won't even use sport mode because it works so poorly with shifting. I am told that my transmission is currently operating normally and Chrysler may release an update to address those issues. Yes in the same sentence they say operating normally and an update my becoming to address issues.

I applaud mfg's for taking advancement steps in new tech, but I don't know about all of this. even though I haven't had any issues (still very earlier in the game only 700 miles) going through all of the gears in town and being in 7th at 40mph seems ridiculous. it's like driving a 13spd tractor rowing through the gears. then there's the 9spd in the Cherokee and other models that can't/won't even go into 8/9 speed. I'm thinking I'd be perfectly happy with a solid 6 spd.

We need to go back to something like the Chevy PowerGlide. It wasn't always the smoothest (until they started slipping) but with only 2 speeds you didn't feel so many shifts.

Chrysler hasn't built a solid transmission since the TorqueFlight 727.

there's your answer IMHO.

Re: Should I be scared or getting a 2015 V6 with 845RE trans?

I can't tell you that this is accurate information but the sales guy that I have known for years at my local dealership told me yesterday that yes, they have received complaints on the v6 tranny and have received no complaints on the 8hp70 tranny they use in the Hemi or Diesel. However he believes that Chrysler has resolved the issues for 2015, although he can't prove it. He said that later build 14's seemed to have fewer problems. He also told me that the 8hp70 tranny is the same tranny used in the BMW X5 and Land Rover Sport. I'm going to think about this a little more but I'm leaning towards getting the Hemi with the 8hp70. I don't like the additional cost and lower gas mileage, but otoh, I can offset that with better performance and hopefully fewer problems.
