I get a little sick in the stomach looking at this photo. That bow wave is very close to the air intake.

Hi Bigskiddy and thanks, but actually the air intake is still quite far from been able to suck any water...do that you have to almost submerge the whole hood...then again..I have to admit I did the crossing as I saw another truck doiong it before I did.
Hopefully if all goes well, the expedition we are planning in the snow for June should be the best so far..we'll see.
Here is another pic that I think is quite good, mine is the GC on the left..you can see the dunes are tall and steep.
Have a great weekend.

Re: Show & tell - wk2 photos off roading "proof"

Some pictures from a just-completed 7,000-mile road trip in the southwest USA where we (my mom and me) did some light off-roading.

Not serious off-roading here, although technically we are off road. Just before the road trip, at a mustard field near home, a picture taken for its artistic beauty.

I name this photo: "Wife in Jeep in Mustard Field." She is there, in the passenger seat.

At the high point in Hollister Hills SVRA, near home: Hector Heights Overlook.

DVNP (Death Valley National Park), at the entrance to Titus Canyon Drive. That's my Mom in the car.

Titus Canyon Drive, DVNP. Another poster upthread took a shot of his rig at this same spot, where his wife was "holding up his JGC with her elbow," like someone else commented. My Mom didn't want to get out, so she is waving out her window. Hey, give her a break, she's nearing 80! A true trooper, she is.

Badwater Basin, DVNP. Technically we are (just) off the road. Should we be up here by this sign? Probably not. We got out of there right away. Yes, that is mom.

I hope your Jeep wasn't fully hot when you drove into that mustard field. Many a vehicle has burnt to the ground from hot exhaust starting tall weeds on fire. Probably not a big risk in that particular field with how green it was, but still something to keep in mind.

More from that same road trip; Arizona through Utah, New Mexico, and on into Texas.

Also at Cliff Dwellers AZ, west of Marble Canyon. See above for the other picture taken near here.

At the Colorado River, down in Marble Canyon AZ. Mom's glamour shot, as rafters in the background prepare to cast off on a multi-day trip through the Grand Canyon.

Sunset at White Sands National Monument. No off-roading allowed, not legally anyway. And no, I did not. Hmmm... that gypsum white sand is very slippery, you can sled down the dune faces. I wonder how well we'd do on those dunes...

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459612012.959386.jpg

At the Rio Grande River in southwest Texas. We're standing in Texas, USA. Over on the left is Chihuahua, Mexico. We could walk across, but then our backs would be wet, LOL.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459612222.442930.jpg

Near the Rio Grande River in Texas, west of the Big Bend National Park's west entrance (BBNP, in TX). This is an area called Grassy Banks. Back in Nov 2009 my wife and dog and I were at this same spot. Dusty, our Chesapeake Bay Retriever, ran around like crazy here, chasing a tennis ball that we'd toss her. She had a great life, our Dusty Rose. Those are some of her ashes in the foreground, on a bed of gypsum white sand that was not taken from within the White Sands National Monument boundary. That would be illegal. Rest well, Dusty Rose, we miss you!

Santa Elena Canyon, BBNP TX.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459612918.268799.jpg

River Road in BBNP, TX. West River Road and East River Road, together, are over 50 miles of dirt across the southern part of BBNP. The road follows, yes you guessed it, the Rio Grande River.

The Jeep was hot but the field was fairly moist. I walked a bit of it before driving onto it, to make sure it wasn't too muddy/boggy. I did not want to win a Bonehead Award for driving into that field and getting stuck.

Good tip Dave, and thanks for that reminder.

More: from Texas, and on into Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado.

Not exactly off-road but in Houston there is a DMC Dealership -- DeLorean Motor Cars. Back to 1985, to the future!

In the town cemetery of Rotan TX rests Slingin' Sammy Baugh. I met him and got his autograph in an NFL book (a gift from my mom) back in the early 1990s. Rest well, Sammy, and enjoy tossing the football around on that great gridiron in the sky with your other Washington Redskins teammates there. Sammy's grave is not easy to find, especially in the dark. It is near the northeast corner and the grave stone faces east, so, if you want to find it approach the rows from the east. DUH. The cemetery is not locked at night, as of Mar 2016 anyway.

Gobi Racks in Aurora CO make a nice product. I am not affiliated with them in any way. Right now I am an interested potential customer. My white rig, without any rack, can be seen in the back left background. We stopped in to look while on this road trip.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459614770.635360.jpg

If anyone is interested in Gobi Racks I posted more pictures in this WK2 Racks thread, here: WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List
I am very interested in their products, and may eventually go with Gobi when I (finally) get a rack.

Inside USAFA's north gate in Colorado Springs sits this B-52, a "BUFF." BUFF stands for Big Ugly Fat Flyer. Uh, yeah, that last F, that's for Flyer - yeah.

Which reminds me. Let's go back to OK, to Altus OK where the B-52's younger little brother, the B-47, greets all who pass through town on US-62.

Trip end: Colorado, to New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, then home to California.

Pike's Peak, CO. The road was open to 11,000' and beyond was not cleared yet from winter snow. Mom was cold, it's cold and windy up here.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617315.319698.jpg

More near Pike's Peak CO.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617394.492234.jpg

A trail's end near Gunnison CO.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617433.245006.jpg

West of Gunnison CO. Too cold for mom to get out of the car, while I take this photo clad in shorts and flip flops.

And a jacket.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617483.661530.jpg

Along the Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton CO. Yes, shorts and flip flops again.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617523.837222.jpg

There are several dirt Jeep trails near this point.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617545.835855.jpg

At a high point on the trails in Hungry Valley SVRA in California. This is near the top of the Grapevine and beside I-5. You can see I-5 from this point, Condor Mesa. My brother's message is written on the door.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617575.456583.jpg

Last off-road photo before arriving home. Still on the trails at Hungry Valley SVRA, I'm looking for another high point in the park. Although this is high and steep, the iPhone camera cannot portray that. I am looking for Freeman Overlook, but could not find it. I'll have to bag that on another visit.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617653.397475.jpg

Back home! The wife doesn't like my brother's message written on this door.

ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1459617714.718626.jpg

That's the end of this trip, 7,100 miles and 9 states in 18 days. These pictures capture some of the off-roading we did. Mom was a real trooper, she was comfortable in the Grand Cherokee, and she kept saying let's go on, let's see what's down that trail.

Re: Show & tell - wk2 photos off roading "proof"

HELLO Everyone . . . It's the "FLY," as you have decided my "moniker" should be ! I picture it as a fly-fisherman's "fly," a tied contraption of feathers on a small barbless hook, but my mind plays tricks on me as I often see a real (insect) fly staring me in the face !
Perhaps maybe I should take a digital photo of one I tied & use below my "name" (now that I have my new little Panasonic Lumix DMC . . . ! It's really cool, takes HD (heavy duty, just kidding) photos & video & is waterproof (for those under water "fish porn" shots) !

I side tracked myself, sorry; WHAT I wanted to alert you all to is an ARTICLE I read this morning on the 'Automotive News' website about what JEEP is doing this whole year ?
A Promotion of sorts involving Jeep OWNERS & their CAMERA'S and it seems like just the sort of thing I have tried to get all of you interested in ! So far my N. American brethren have not come through as I hoped, but I haven't given up on "US," we tend to be slow out of the gate hee hee !
I'm sure it is somewhere on the JEEP.COM page, just gotta find the right place to click on ?
Maybe this will provide the extra oomph to get "US" going too ! ?
I'll certainly be checking out Jeepsters inputs their and HOPE that some of them are members here & will double share their adventures here, Especially the WK2 owners !

Hi, Fly, if you can give us a link that'd be great! Maybe start a dedicated thread for that topic too, then link to it in here.

TIA, and, TBTSFIM.

(Too busy to search for it myself! )

Next super fun off road trip will be in June in the Andes...its looking like a great adventure...will post pics upon return...if I return !..haha
JIM, this is all your fault and Victor, Holy-Cow you Nuts ?
Unnecessary Risk taking was my 1st thought ! No Snorkel ? 20" rims ? Road tires ? Your son sticking out the roof and the vehicle at one point looking like it has totally lost contact with the subsurface & about to go over - UGH ! How bad were the "shit- stains" ? Totally surprised, not seeing any water pour out when you opened the doors, again ? ? ? Learned one thing - besides NOT taking that kind of risk, and that is the door seals are Very Good !
YES please do continue to share your new WK2 adventures here. Try to include some cool more serene campsite stuff (if you do that sort of thing) !
You know cooking up some papas fritas and steaks over some hot coals . . . ?

I was in & off the coast of Uruguay via a US Navy Unitas cruise/tour (it goes around S. America) in 1987/'88 ! Wish I could remember the port ? That was the most fun I ever had, as far as Navy Cruises go ! GOOD People everywhere and good times too ! The local food & wine was Great, as I could not believe how little the cost ! SO we all left a BIG tips - I think they were a bit "shocked"?
I often wondered - do they think of us as "the American rich snobs" ? Of course we weren't, just grateful underpaid enlisted sailors ! For example, for $10 here back then I could go to MickyDees and get 2 quarter pounders and a large soda -that be about it ! ! ! Down There it was a full & satisfying 3 course meal with lots of wine & 4 star service ! ! ! Wish I had Digital photos to share.

Thanks Again . . . Keepem' coming ! ! !
