Not serious off-roading here, although technically we are off road. Just before the road trip, at a mustard field near home, a picture taken for its artistic beauty.

I name this photo: "Wife in Jeep in Mustard Field." She is there, in the passenger seat.

At the high point in Hollister Hills SVRA, near home: Hector Heights Overlook.

DVNP (Death Valley National Park), at the entrance to Titus Canyon Drive. That's my Mom in the car.

Attachment 66996

Titus Canyon Drive, DVNP. Another poster upthread took a shot of his rig at this same spot, where his wife was "holding up his JGC with her elbow," like someone else commented. My Mom didn't want to get out, so she is waving out her window. Hey, give her a break, she's nearing 80! A true trooper, she is.

Same location as above, from a different angle; Titus Canyon Drive, DVNP

Attachment 66998

Titus Canyon Drive, DVNP; exiting the canyon, it's about 20 miles on a one-way drive through Titus Canyon

Attachment 66999

Badwater Basin, DVNP. Technically we are (just) off the road. Should we be up here by this sign? Probably not. We got out of there right away. Yes, that is mom.

Just west of Marble Canyon AZ, at a small roadside area called Cliff Dwellers.

A trail's end near Gunnison CO.

West of Gunnison CO. Too cold for mom to get out of the car, while I take this photo clad in shorts and flip flops.

And a jacket.

Along the Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton CO. Yes, shorts and flip flops again.

Attachment 67039

There are several dirt Jeep trails near this point.

Attachment 67040

At a high point on the trails in Hungry Valley SVRA in California. This is near the top of the Grapevine and beside I-5. You can see I-5 from this point, Condor Mesa. My brother's message is written on the door.

Attachment 67041

Last off-road photo before arriving home. Still on the trails at Hungry Valley SVRA, I'm looking for another high point in the park. Although this is high and steep, the iPhone camera cannot portray that. I am looking for Freeman Overlook, but could not find it. I'll have to bag that on another visit.

Attachment 67042

Back home! The wife doesn't like my brother's message written on this door.

Attachment 67043

That's the end of this trip, 7,100 miles and 9 states in 18 days. These pictures capture some of the off-roading we did. Mom was a real trooper, she was comfortable in the Grand Cherokee, and she kept saying let's go on, let's see what's down that trail.

(Too busy to search for it myself! )
well, I don't know, haven't gone to jeep yet, but, Automotivenews.com will get you to their site - just search the page for the Jeep Article - it should be self explanatory.
I'm not good at doing this "transfer stuff" ! Sort of a computer klutz !
Come on You can do it . . . NOBODIES lazier than me ! . . . ?

EDIT ; OK I went to JEEP.COM and all you need to do is click on the - 75th - at the top right and a drop down window appears . . . click on (brain fart) - "tell your story" ? SEE HOW EASY !
EDIT#2 ; Actually over at the "news" it is just - autonews.com - & about half way down middle of page there will be an FCA reference to it.

For some reason it loaded the thumbnail but not the 9 final photos. Likely, a personal problem, and I got them in my next attempt.

They're coming, will share. I would post to another (likely new) thread since that's not the topic here.

Will let you know when that's done, Lou. Thanks for your comments, yes, it was a great trip and I learned a lot of my family history from Mom.

Yes Victor has done some crazy shit. Some of us aspire to be like him!

About the 20" rims and road tires, I did a fair amount of off-roading on the OEM Forteras before they wore out and I upsized to the Wranglers. Our rigs are very capable as is, fully stock. Don't be fooled by the crappy OEM tires, you can do a lot on them. They suck in mud, though, but then again in a little more mud the tread blocks on larger AT tires will get overwhelmed and you'll be stuck with those too. Everything has a limit, right?

My profile picture shows my wife and co-pilot sticking her head out of the sunroof. That is on Pismo Beach, and we're on the OEM Forteras in that pic. That day, we headed up into the dunes and the tires did okay, well enough. I have posted about that here, elsewhere, it can be found.

Just beware that your rims aren't as protected by the /50s (IIRC, that's what they came shod with). If not careful, you will scratch those pretty rims. Even with the beefier tires, if you're not careful you will also scratch rims, although they are more protected.

Also, with /50s you have much less sidewall height to play with. Stay within your limits.

Head out to the trails, be careful, and learn! And have fun! That's what it's about.

I meant to include Mexican Hat Rock too. It's in UT, near Monument Valley.

I've got to get a better camera. The iPhone does okay, all of my photos are with the iPhone, but it's not like having a DSLR with a 70-210 zoom.

Unnecessary Risk taking was my 1st thought ! No Snorkel ? 20" rims ? Road tires ? Your son sticking out the roof and the vehicle at one point looking like it has totally lost contact with the subsurface & about to go over - UGH ! How bad were the "shit- stains" ? Totally surprised, not seeing any water pour out when you opened the doors, again ? ? ? Learned one thing - besides NOT taking that kind of risk, and that is the door seals are Very Good !
YES please do continue to share your new WK2 adventures here. Try to include some cool more serene campsite stuff (if you do that sort of thing) !
You know cooking up some papas fritas and steaks over some hot coals . . . ?

I was in & off the coast of Uruguay via a US Navy Unitas cruise/tour (it goes around S. America) in 1987/'88 ! Wish I could remember the port ? That was the most fun I ever had, as far as Navy Cruises go ! GOOD People everywhere and good times too ! The local food & wine was Great, as I could not believe how little the cost ! SO we all left a BIG tips - I think they were a bit "shocked"?
I often wondered - do they think of us as "the American rich snobs" ? Of course we weren't, just grateful underpaid enlisted sailors ! For example, for $10 here back then I could go to MickyDees and get 2 quarter pounders and a large soda -that be about it ! ! ! Down There it was a full & satisfying 3 course meal with lots of wine & 4 star service ! ! ! Wish I had Digital photos to share.

Thanks Again . . . Keepem' coming ! ! !
Flyfinatic - you made me laugh !...sorry...I dont think I have campsite pics with me...but next trip I'll try to remember to take some.
I posted some videos and more pics after each trip, i dont want to send them all again as I dont want to bore people with the same images, if you search for my other posts you'll see them.
Just to clarify..that is not my son, that is my friends son, not that it makes any difference...but its good to have the facts straight...haha.
Those trips are kind of guided trips, we go 8-9 trucks with a guide leading the group, so what I mean is that is lots of fun but not really serious risk, when you see somebody going before you...well...in my case its easy to go for it, some of the places I've been i wouldnt have gone or crossed on my own not knowing whats ahead or underneath.
So you where here with UNITAS ?...I remember in the newspapers reading about that, i'm 55 so at that time I was 37, the only port in Uruguay in Uruguay is Montevideo so I think thats the one you are talking about ?.
And yes, in those days with a few dollars in your pocket down here you were almost rich....nowadays because if exchange rates prices of food are similar, not the same with imported items, like cars !, due to taxes prices here are a little bit over double the price you pay in the states..so you can imagine now what a GC costs here...a lot !.
I'll try to attach a few videos underneath this text, one in the mud and one in snow.
Well, thats it for now, have a great weekend and dont you worry, after my next trip pics will be posted.
Rgds.

Hi Echo7tango, thanks...but let me tell you that some of us would like to be like you, why ?..because you did a great trip with your mother, and not everyone has the chance of doing something like that, my mom is also 80 and if I would even hint the idea of such a long trip by car..she would probably kick me !!..ha,ha...so, having said and not knowing you or your mom personally...the only thing for me to say is : Congratulations to your mom and you for such a great trip, relation, and excellent pics, and if you ever come/fly down here dont you worry and I'll arrange to go in one of this trips that I do down here, ok ?..
Have a great weekend and best to you and everyone reading.

YUP, and that was my whole point about the 20" rims. Splashing in & out of the Salt water on the beaches gotta not be good for the underside and all the running fear ! ! ! Hope you give it all a good "going over" with an undercarriage Soapy Wash when you get home !
But if not mistaken, that water barrage was the Mouth of some River ?
