He stays by my side at all times and when he has a hold of something a simple command of "release" makes him stop what he's doing, no "locking jaw" here. He's great with the young kids in our family as well, and they poke, pull and ride him like a horse. Dogs are animals it doesn't matter if the breed is a pit, boxer, lab , Shepard. None of them can be trusted 100% they can all snap for no reason because they are ANIMALS, I've read plenty of stories of small dogs, labs, boxers, etc mauling people and other dogs. It's not specific to one breed it's just more publicized because the media loves to sensationalize it

My pibble is a rescue - I grabbed him off the side of the freeway a year ago. He's one of (if not the best) dog I've ever owned. Temperament and obedience wise. He is way more social than my chocolate lab and my lab/boxer mix. He was obviously abused, as he still has pellets lodged inside of him. But even that has not held him back from being a loyal and loving dog.

At the end of the day he gets the most attention from people from both sides. And I can honestly say he has changed several minds of people who only thought of a pit as a vicious killer used only to fight.

Humans are the ones at fault here.

They dont maul toddlers. I cant trust them with sheep and even fully trained I dont fully trust them with sheep. So please drop your PR campaign that Pits are just like any other dog. They dont think like a Retriever and they sure as hell dont have a soft mouth like a retriever. When one of my dogs bites a sheep or grips it releases immediately. Pits dont. My dog will bite a sheep that is challenging it and wants to hurt my dog. THey need to enforce they are in charge. The wounds from a bite of herding dog are no way as severe and damaging as a bite from a pit. My friends who have been training and working herding dogs for over 30 years have the same opinion of pits. One of them looks at their dog cross eyed and its dead.

I train herding dogs, work herding trials, trial, and work sheep. This Sunday we were out helping a friend move her 100 ewes and approx young lambs. She has Border Collies and I have collies. My 2yo boy needs the experience moving large flocks and working with ewes and their lambs. She had to shoot a couple of pits that wondered onto her farm and started acting aggressively towards her dogs on Thurs. Turns out neighbor down the road son moved back home with his dogs ie pits. She couldnt afford to have her dogs put out of commission or lose lambs or ewes.

Pits arent like other dogs and combining them with young male owners w/o a lot of dog sense and training experience isnt a good combination. You ll just dont have the experience in training dogs. And I am willing to bet some of you chose a pit because of the pit's image as a tough dog that can kill.

My response as well:

Here here.

Every dog I've been bit by has been a smaller breed or lap dog type. My sister was actually bit a long time ago going down a water slide by a golden retriever that punctured a hole through her leg. The dog had to be put down unfortunately, but that's another case of ignoramus mentality thinking a golden retriever would never do that.

Thank you,

It was the day of my Wedding so the Photographer was getting pictures of every dame thing that had a pulse at the time... Also explains the look on both the dogs faces of boredom... NOT an exciting day for them other than the people running around.
