Shut Off Seat Belt Warning

I just noticed this yesterday as I usually wear my seatbelt. I was on the beach and had to move the Jeep a few feet as the tide was coming in. The seat belt warning was dinging. The message in the cluster said to turn off the warning press OK. Is that something new? I never had a vehicle that allowed that.

I've never seen that. Hopefully the feature is a "one time" type thing, meaning "OK to turn it off right now", but it will chime the next time the belts are undone and the vehicle is in motion. Too many kids would take advantage of it otherwise...

If I don't have my seatbelt on, I also get that display in the EVIC. If you hit OK, it goes away until the next time. There is a way to turn the chiming off (I did as I hate that noise). I forget exactly how to do it but it is the same on Fords and Chevy, something with clicking/unclicking the seatbelt 3times and the ignition button.

1. Get inside car with ignition off.
2. Close doors and buckle seat belt in drivers side.
3. Push the push start button to ACC/Run Mode (do not turn on engine). This means only push the push start button, no need to depress brake, doing so will turn engine on, a big no no.
4. Wait for red seat belt light to turn off.
5. Unbuckle and rebuckle seat belt at least 3 times ending with seatbelt buckled. ( I unbuckled and rebuckled 4 times and it worked)
6. Push the push start button (turns off display). You will hear a single chime if you succeeded.

There are actually 3 close but different methods to permanatly turn it off. I have done that as we are always with them off as we have a 150m driveway so don;t put them on to open/close the gate.

Grabbed from around the forum

DISABLE SEAT BELT ALARM - 1
1) First get in the Jeep. Close all doors and windows.
2) Turn the ignition to the off position.
3) Then fasten your drivers seat belt.
4) Push the black ignition start button. The seatbelt dashboard indicator light will soon shut off.
5) Within 45 seconds of starting the truck, undo and then reconnect your safety belt three times or more. Once done leave the belt on.
6) Now turn off the truck.
7) Next listen for a bell to go off just once to confirm that the system took the reprogramming of the seatbelt alarm.
8) Your seatbelt alarm should now be turned off. If it didnt take try it again making sure that you did all the disabling steps fast enough.

DISABLE SEAT BELT ALARM - 2
1) get into the car
2) before turning anything on, buckle up.
3) put the car in run mode (meaning press the on/off button twice. once to put it into ACC mode, then second time to put it into run mode where the car performs all its checks. do not keep you foot on the break, as that will obviously turn the car on)
4) after having placed the car in RUN mode, wait until the little red seatbelt symbol disappears, after the car had run through its checks.
5) after the symbol has disappeared, unbuckle and buckle 3 times. make sure to end the 3rd unbuckling with being buckled up.
6) after having performed the unbuckling procedure 3 times, press the on/off button again to turn the car off. (remember, you have never actually started the engine yet).
7) after having pressed the on/of button, you should hear a single "chime". that means the seat belt chine is gone! next time you start the car, there will no longer be any seatbelt sounds.

however, the unbuckled warning will still appear in the cluster every time you start driving from a stand still, but it disappears within seconds. more importantly, there is no more that annoying chime!!!!

DISABLE SEAT BELT ALARM - 3

"The problem I ran into was that I kept turning the engine on. So whatever you do, do not turn the engine until after you have finished programming. The key is to leave your car in ACC/Run mode."

Yes, do the same thing again and it turns it back on.

It took me ages before it finally took (can’t remember which option worked). There are at least 3 other threads discussing this topic (where I collected those 3 slightly different solutions from) and they contain a mix of feedback, from working straight away to not working at all (hence different options) and those like me where it simply took multiple attempts.

Between attempts, make sure you have car off, open and close door and wait 60 seconds before attempting again.

I didn't have to wait or open/close the door when I retried 3 times.

Get in the car keep your foot off the brake pedal!
Buckle your seat belt
push start
push start again
Unbuckle your belt
Buckle your belt
Unbuckle your belt
Buckle your belt
Unbuckle your belt
Buckle your belt
Unbuckle your belt
Buckle your belt
Leave it buckled and push start

You should here a single chime if you did it correctly on the last step

No, don't have to, but it is the default reset process for the system to ensure you are starting from fresh if having troubles.

You should still get one chime to remind, then it stops, so not the constant one.

It worked for my 14 overland. Waiting the 60 seconds is key if you screw up. No one to get in the passenger seat right now so my question is, does disabling the driver side automatically shut it off for both sides?

Re: Shut Off Seat Belt Warning 2017 GC Trailhawk

The below procedure worked first time on my new Trailhawk. Shuts off both front seats. Has stayed off so far, assume you must reverse the procedure to turn it back on.
