Skid plates? how much weight do they add to the car?

I am thinking to buy and install the Front Axle Skid Plate, Fuel Tank Skid Plate
and Transfer Case Skid Plate. $682 installed or ~$500 DIY. I was wondering how much weight they add to the car, and if they really important in light offroad situations? Also, it seems to me that they are very easy to install but I do not have car lifter available. Does it make sense DIY or pay the extra $200 to the dealer?
Thanks

Re: Skid plates? how much weight do they add to the car?

The Front Axle Skid and the Transfer case skid will add about 25 pound total.
The gas tank each side will add about 8 pound each.
I install the Front and Transfer case plus the fuel line skids myself in about 30 Minutes. A second pair of hands will make it happen quicker as you just bolt while the other will hold the pieces.
The gas tank pieces I did not buy yet but will take the car to install them at the dealer service area.
At the end I got a quote of $115.00 to install all.

I ordered and installed all 5 factory skid plates to my 14 summit. Shipping weight for all 5 in 1 box was 117 lbs

Was the shipping fee expensive? I'm seeing that paying the dealer or paying shipping is about the same for me... like $50 difference, considering I would have to buy some of the tools... looks like paying the dealer would be best for me :-(

I got all 5 (3 part numbers) shipped for $416, weren't packed very well though and box broke opened. A floor jack to steady the gas tank plates is big help cause they are heavy but not a must really don't need any special tools just dial Quadra lift all the way up. Take a look through this thread here there is more info on it. $682 is not that bad though for installed

Just Bought a 14 Summit, what are the must have accessories?
