Smoking Cigarettes in 2014 Grand Cherokee

Probably a VERY stupid question to ask -- but unfortunately I smoke in the car.

I like to hold the cigarette out the window (almost entirely) and blow the smoke out the window fully -- but in this car (2014 GC), probably because of the aerodynamics the smoke CONSTANTLY blows back in the window -- all over my face and clothes. Anyone else smoke in their car and find this annoying? I can not blow the smoke simply out the window!

By the way, what is "WK2" stand for -- I don't get it! (sorry!)

Get the window visors, they create negative pressure as you are driving which pulls air out of the cabin. Also, i always turn my air on to blow out towards my feet, then leave the window cracked about an inch. This creates positive pressure in the cabin, so air will be pushed out of your cracked window.

I quit last year (yay me!) but, i would rarely smoke in the 2011 we had... roll the window down about 2 inches, and put your hand right by the bottom front so the cigarette is close to the front by the mirror) The smoke will suck out while you are moving. (When you stop... you gotta roll it down more lol)

something odd about the way the air moves around this vehicle compared to others i have owned :)

This plus a set of weathertech or similar vent visors, having the drivers side dash vent closed, the rest open with the fan on a higher setting to create a positive pressure in the cabin.

Worked for me when I used to smoke in the car. Quitting smoking in the car turned out to be pretty easy for me. Quitting all together ... still working on that...

good luck.

The world is not an ashtray, hopefully he keeps them to discard later. Butts are one of the worst causes of brush fires and are just ugly nasty pieces of trash.
Smokers c'mon, stop throwing them out on the ground. It's your right to smoke, we can't stop you, so do it responsibly.

Everybody and their uncle seems to be getting on that bandwagon, apparently trying to stay ahead of gov't regulations.

Submitted for your consideration: [no trademarks presumed]

iCigarette from Apple.

UCigarette from the folks who brought you UConnect. You light it, it goes out.
You light it again, it lights up like a Christmas tree and then goes out. etc. etc. etc.

The cigarette thing is part of a plot by the guv't to get you to stop smoking.
You might want to try a set of Weathertech air deflectors...

The wk2 is the second generation of the wk. Not sure why it didn't get its own initials as opposed to a number--maybe they were running out of initials.

The initials aren't in alpha order either, as the original GC was the ZJ.

I have news for all the smokers out there. You think people can't smell it, but you are most emphatically wrong. Your sense of smell has been diminished from smoking. People who are sensitive to cigarette smoke can smell it from a distance, even when you're outside and not smoking. I'm not telling anyone how you must behave, just stating the facts. I have several friends who smoke, and are very considerate about it, but everything they own reeks from the smell. When I follow a car with a smoker holding their cigarette out the window I have to close up my car and put the climate control on recirculate to keep from have an adverse reaction. I'm not unique in this sensitivity, I know quite a few others who have the same problem. I respect a smoker's right to poison themselves any way the want. I really don't think legislating these behaviors are effective, so I protect myself the best I can. I've only posted these comments so those of you who smoke can know that whatever you do, you're not hiding anything. Cigarette smoke stinks, and stale cigarette smoke stinks even worse. I hope I haven't offended anyone, especially the OP, but I believe I have a right to speak my mind on this subject too.

+1

I bet the parents are being polite or have lost their sense of smell because you are their child. I can smell it on anyone who had a cigarette lately. It gets stuck in your clothes, hair, breath and anything else you are near. Washing only dulls the smell, it never gets rid of it.

Does a whole lot more than stinks. Impairs judgment, slows reaction time to a crawl, and slowly makes you stupid.

I'm the same bucket as a few folks here. I'm allergic to something in cigarette smoke, so if I'm around it, it's a bit of a living hell for me (Hay Fever x100). I can tell if a car has been smoked in pretty easily as a result.

As for smoking pot, other than the smell, the residue is pretty gnarly as well. I used to work in a small computer firm back in high school. Folks that smoked pot had some seriously F*'d up machines (cooling fans would be gummed up, etc...).

That being said, both are perfectly legal here in WA, so.. to each their own I guess.

Me, no thanks on either.

This thread is making me want to quit smoking real cigarettes for good I've been smoking an E cig hope they don't stink and I just can't smell them... Never smoke real cigs in my cars though I agree cigs smell really bad and second hand smoke is terrible even being a smoker I can't stand second hand smoke.

Maybe your friends need to have better hygene. I ask friends all the time if they can smell it on me before we go into places, and rarely do they ever. And my parents were never polite about it, I would have literally had my ass beaten repeatedly by my parents if they had even suspected it.

Like i said, some people dont have the best hygene anyways... Mix that with smoking, and yeah, you get a person who always smells like smoke. If you are always concious of it though, it doesnt become a problem.

Maybe it's just me with a heightened sense of smell toward cigarettes. I always get, really, you can smell it on me? Even the ones who have all the tricks in the trade. I can understand your hygiene call but it doesn't make a difference if you have immaculate hygiene, I will still smell it.

I've never had a cigarette in my life, purely because I hate the smell. I will swap out of hotel rooms on non-smoking floors because I can smell that a smoker has been in there.. These are 5 star hotels that bother to clean. Your car which is a confined space would be a piece of cake.

Growing up around parents who smoked and having a hatred for the smell means I know when people are trying to hide it, it's experience.

In 1993 the EPA designated second hand cigarette smoke a Class A carcinogen - putting it in the same class as asbestos. Doesn't make sense that if you went into a restaurant today and saw asbestos falling from the ceiling the entire building would be emptied out; everyone who was in it would be decontaminated; the building would be sealed; and a hazmat crew would be dispatched to the scene to tear all the asbestos out, bag it and seal it, and incinerate it - yet some restaurants still permit smoking. I don't for a second condemn anyone for smoking, as it is a choice - same as I can (and often do) choose to stuff another cheeseburger into my already-overweight body. Difference is, when I eat a cheeseburger it takes no time off anyone's life expectancy near me except for my own.

Not implying anything and nothing personal, but the other difference is smokers get the privilege of paying an extra 20 a check for a health insurance surcharge whereas the 450 pounder down the hall does not get hit with a surcharge.

That southpark episode where they treated smokers like lepers comes to mind...

True...but us porkers do pay more in sales taxes due to the sheer volume of food we partake of. :D

Was smoking 3 packs a day back in May. Smoked in the car, smoked in the house, smoked one in bed before I went to sleep. Bought me an E-cig vaping mod and haven't smoked a real cigarette in 2 months. My wife says they are wonderful things. She has never smoked. I'm sure the FDA and EPA will want to start regulating and taxing them since they ACTUALLY WORK. We all know it's about the revenue and the power.

But......the vent visors on the side windows will help suck the smoke out if you keep the window cracked about 2 inches and hold the cigarette near the lower front part of the driver's window. They pull enough smoke out that the wife did not complain even on a long trip and I smoked constantly when I was driving. Plus, they keep you from getting wet when it's raining and you've got the window cracked. I've put them on every car since the wing vents went away on the last American vehicle, which I think was a '97 F-250 diesel (old body style) because the F-150 had the new body style in '97. I kept that F-250 10 years just because of the wing vents.....and didn't even like the truck.

Butts???? There are a multitude of little ash trays/butt cans that you can Velcro to the dash or console, and some that fit nicely in a cup holder. If nothing else, a left over water bottle with a tad of water in the bottom works.

I'm sure noone came to the forum to get a lecture. We are all adults and can make our own decisions. I'm not a smoker myself and nor do I condone it; however just like the person that can't put that hamburger down/ Junk food and the person who goes to the bar to drink 10 beers, we all have out vices. Shit I know I do !

I agree and I understand that most people started smoking when they were young and less was known about the health affects of it. I just hate it when I see young people today starting to smoke because they think its "cool" with everything that is known about it. I have seen many people have their lives shortened because of smoking.

We all must pay the consequences for our decisions. Sometimes the consequences can be particularly deadly for really poor decisions. Next time you're out and about, look around. If you are observant, you will see many people doing exceptionally stupid things. We all have a right to behave the way we want to a certain extent, but when our poor behavior puts others at risk, we need to draw some lines. It's all about will, and in America today, it seems that a lot of people just don't have the will to do the right thing anymore. It's really a shame.

I sometimes think I would rather ride in a car that had a slight smell of cigarette smoke than keep getting all these whiffs of sanctimonious hypocrisy. I would hope that those who claim they are deathly ill from getting a whiff of smoke from 100 yds. away while whizzing by at 60 mph aren't driving a HEMI 4x4 and spewing exhaust fumes in my air. Oh wait....that IS your personal choice isn't it......and it's a legal product.

Some of you need to go on down to the nursing home and look at all these non-smokers AND smokers who are in their 80s and 90s who are now drooling, peeing on themselves and worse, and don't know who they are or where they are at. If it's true that smokers check out a little early....and I'm not convinced that they do.....maybe they have the right idea. Just how long do you want to live anyway....and it is required that you die of SOMETHING.

It's a valid point. Vilifying smoking and by extension smokers is oddly socially acceptable right now. There are a lot more damaging behaviors that are oddly not only off limits from crtisism, but in many respects actually encouraged. Just look at our food industry for one example. Prescription drugs for anything and everything is another.

As they say, your mileage may vary...

I heard wearing a hoody at night in central Florida and kicking some old guys ass who confronts you is very damaging as well. This thread is out of control lol but better than reading what went wrong with someone's jeep today.
