You can make generalizations about any type of repair but in my experience quality auto body repair is nearly undetectable . The operative word here is quality. And I'm sure if you went on a body work forum you would get all the answers to the concerns you have , just seems to me you're overthinking it. But that's just me. To use the word phrase "always going to have issues with a respray" is simply bullcrap

Their website new inventory is hit or miss with cars with front plates and without. Why any dealer would put front plates on cars before they're sold and requested is BEYOND me.

I've dabbled in dealer auctions and was under the impression the depth of a re spray is never going to match factory, thus why those paint detectors at auction work to sniff out prior repairs.

Because 99 percent of buyers don't give a flying fart and its a timesaver when they are getting it ready for the new owner

Well kind of like you said, it's probably based on the state requirements. Technically the dealer owns all the inventory until you purchase and can add whatever additional things they want to their inventory. At the time you negotiate and come to an agreement on the vehicle your buying, these small things need to come into consideration and be mentioned as part of the deal so you walk out happy and 100% satisfied. If ordering, the dealer should respect your request or plan to lose sales.

Bottom line, its not collision repair it won't show up on a carfax and when done correctly won't be detectable, like I said take it to a BMW, or Benz shop tell how anal you are and see what they say

Always, no. Generally yes. Every vehicle my family has had where something had to be repainted didn't work so well down the road. My 95 escort was white and the hood and 1 fender turned yellow vs the factory paint which was still white. My mom's 05 Uplander never was 1 shade of white again after replacing 1 fender. My 2011 fusion is blue flame metallic, I had a really bad door ding that required them to respray the left rear door, that door is a different color than the rest of the car. I could give other examples but they are on 80's vehicles that were from a different era so it's not really apples to apples.

Instead of wasting time & money dealing with repairing or buying a new bumper cover, why not just run the stock license plate holder, and buy yourself a nice stainless steel vanity plate that has "Jeep", "Grand Cherokee", or something like that?

Re: So. I want a new bumper on my brand new '14 Overland

I don't understand all the negative comments towards the OP. We have the same issue here where I live as it is a border city (in two states) and one state requires a front plate and the other does not.

I specifically instructed the dealer to NOT drill holes in my $50,000+ vehicle and I would be pissed if they did as well. I don't even let them run it through the complimentary brush (not brushless) car wash when they service it as it has a $600 detail on it.

Some might not mind drilled holes in their bumper but I understand where the OP is coming from and would want a new bumper too.

Re: So. I want a new bumper on my brand new '14 Overland

I have no problem with the OP and his issue, but my issue is why would you take delivery on a vehicle that has the front plates on if you don't want it. Why not work with the dealer to replace the bumper with one without holes before signing the paperwork if it bothers you so much.

Nor did I but to think that only a robot can paint a bumper to his satisfaction is ludicrous
