Re: So. I want a new bumper on my brand new '14 Overland

If I read correctly this car was bought off the lot already with a front bracket. If that's true. the dealer owes the OP nothing, but could (maybe should) do something as a good will gesture.

I get a kick out of this thread because my car came with damage to the bumper. I agreed to have it painted, and although it took a second trip to the body shop for additional buffing, it looks fine.

Then, I drilled holes in the bumper to mount my surf fishing permit.

Blasphemy! You need to take that back to the dealer and rage about the damage you caused!

Taws600 is on a distinguished road
All I gotta say is wow, some people are super anal and fret over such minor stupid stuff. I keep my car nice & clean, park it away from other cars and I thought I was anal. But complaining about holes that can be fixed and paying $600 for a detail? Really. I hope u never have to deal with real problems in your life cuz u might self destruct.

Those are pretty strong statements about the character of someone you know nothing about. I assure you that the problems in my life (less than 99) are real and I don't fret over drilled holes or scratched finishes because I plan ahead and avoid them as well as know how to deal with them when the do happen. Also, a $600 investment on a detail (which includes the interior) is not a big deal on a $50,000 vehicle, but that doesn't mean I want to have someone mess it up unnecessarily.

As someone else mentioned, if the OP bought the vehicle with holes in it then they should have negotiated their repair before hand but if the holes were drilled after the sale without notice then the dealer should negotiate a repair for free. Either way I can understand someone not wanting holes and I can also understand others not caring about holes. What I can't understand is the negative attitude towards someone not wanting holes or a paint job that may not match or hold up (both of which I have also experienced and understand).

Good day.

Re: So. I want a new bumper on my brand new '14 Overland

I don't see why everyone is getting so defensive about OP wanting a new bumper. I agree that no holes in the front makes the vehicle look much better/cleaner. I live in IL which requires front plates so I knew when ordering the Jeep that if I didn't tell the dealer ahead of time, they would drill holes in the front of the vehicle. I probably told them 5 times when buying it that I do not want any holes drilled into it. And even then after that I was worried someone would forget and plow a plate on the front when it arrived. Fortunately, the dealer remembered and I got it with no holes in it. Looks a ton better IMO.

So I can relate OP, don't listen to everyone else's negative comments. I'm with ya!

I think to each his own. If the op cant live with damage to the vehicle he should absolutely have it repaired/replaced without people giving him a hard time. It's your car do what you want. People get so emotional on the Internet. Incredible. Though obviously he shouldn't have taken possession without first striking some sort of deal to have any existing damage to the vehicle taken care of.

When I bought my 08 limited I got it new off the lot, after the test drive I noticed a small amount of glue on the headliner. It wasn't terribly noticeable but to me it was a big deal because I wanted my new car to be perfect, which should be totally understandable. So I told the salesperson he had a deal, if they would replace the headliner and replace it so that I couldn't tell the work had ever been done. They agreed and actually did quality work which was unexpected.

Done deal.

Had I left without pointing out glue, I would've been responsible.

I think my point is obvious.

600 for a detail is a bit much though, in my humble opinion. Ten details or a low to mid level rolex....hmmmm.....

Always check the headliner for glue!

Not if you saw the amount of work and product that went into it and the number of touch up polish, sealant and then wax that is included in the package. I am good for about 18-24 months of wash, polish, sealant, wax, leather cleaning, leather conditioning, rim sealant, glass cleaning and glass polishing covered in that package. It wasn't just some guy who waxed the car and charged $600, lol.

So 2 years of detailing, full service for 600?

That's not bad.

I'd still take the watch though, but that's just me, I like watches.

Me either. If you don't like the fact that the OP wants a new bumper, move along.
