So where would you guys store water?

Since I have a new little dude to drive around with (aka a new son) I always like to be prepared for the unexpected,so I want to take you guys temp as to where you would keep bottled water and formula.

The two spots I was entertaining was under the drivers seat in the empty compartment or where the spare is... I like to keep the trunk free of stuff bc I have to lug around the wife's stuff plus the junk for both kids...

Ideas?

I was thinking about that too, but with fall around the corner I think it will keep cool.

Also, it's dry formula so I don't think spoilage is an issue.

The area around the spare is a good idea. The storage bins should hold a few bottles. I would keep some frozen and throw a couple of them in during the summer. In a few hours you still may have cool water.

I keep bottled water in the center console...

All good ideas... Console would be hard bc i have a bunch of isht in there already... Looks like the spare compartment might be the idea.

Careful about volume expansion if it freezes where you live. Also, I'm not sure if I would want to give an infant water that had been stored in plastic water bottles that were stored in rather high temps for a long period of time (i.e. possibly leaching chemicals).

Personally I'd use glass or stainless steel containers for emergency water reserve for an infant (leaving room in the container for volume expansion if it freezes). Stainless would obviously be more durable in the spare compartment storage.

I keep water in a duffle bag in the rear (along with food, a change of clothes, and other emergency supplies).

I still have plenty of room for other stuff & can grab the bag with all of my supplies and go if needed. I keep it secured with a heavy duty bungee cord to the tie-downs.

Buy an electric cooler and put it on the rear floor.
Very good idea, especially for travel. These usually can be used for both cooling things and alternatively keeping stuff warm and also usually come with a power supply that you can use in a hotel room, etc., so stuff stays cold for the subsequent day's driving.

Congrats on the little one!

And IDK about the spare tire area as that is always hot as **** when I go in it for my cleaning supplies. IDK about you but I find the WK2 throws off WAYYYYYY much more heat than my WK1. lol

Never used the compartment under the drivers seat though. lol

Listening to you guys talk confirms I never want a child in infant form, maybe I'll adopt a teenager lol

New parents...sheesh. You'll be taking a bag with a bib, clothes, empty grocery bags, and diapers everywhere you go. In this bag keep a few of the pre-mixed bottles of individual use formula. You'd never want to use these every day or you'd go broke. Done and done.

And congrats on the new one...the real trip starts with the 2nd.

I have three kids and find their stuff under the rear passenger seats all the time. Maybe that would be a good spot.

Guys talking about formula, on a truck forum, this is great.

Let's think about this. Formula is a substitute for breast milk which is naturally warm from mommy's boob. Bottled water added to powdered formula would ideally be warmed to the same temp. How many of us held bottles under running hot water (burning the crap out of your hands) to warm up a bottle? Back in the day, parents would put bottles in heated water on the stove b/c the milk was kept in the fridge and babies naturally want warm milk. I know some parents actually microwave the milk or formula. No need for coolers.

This is assuming that you have not premixed the formula. I am assuming that you have sealed powdered/dehydrated formula and you are keeping it with separate stored water. Chemical leaching would theoretically be an issue if subjected to high temps (microwaving) or for prolonged periods of time.

I am done with bottles and night time feedings. Any tips for potty training would be welcome though. Damn diapers are expensive. I could have afforded the HK upgrade.

Congrats on the new addition to the team, it is fun and worth the sleepless nights.

Lol, great post... Indeed, it is powder and only considering storing the water now bc it's getting colder out. The first dude is 3 so he eats like me (everything) so it's only for the 2 month old..

As for potty training I was given a tip that worked like a charm. Assuming you have a little dude this will work...

My little guy loves cheerios so I dumped a few in the toilette and told him to aim for them... Sure, it's funny as shit to think about, but that was the only thing that worked. I tossed a few in there and said "OK Jackie boy, try to get them"! We laughed and by golly it worked like a charm.

I have a Maxcold cooler that I use. It has a pouch for snacks & powdered drinks in it when we head out. It will hold about 8 bottles of water give or take & we just throw the water in when we head out. I would also take the diaper bag with the normal items in it as well - the water & formula may fit in there as well.

What size cooler is it? Does it plug in to keep stuff cold or is it driven by ice?

You've gotta think big when it comes to prepping for little kids. If it hasn't happened yet, it will—you'll be driving someone and your baby will drop the absolute motherload in their pants, just a straight up explosion. Here's my solution for prepping my Jeep for road trips with young children…
