Re: SOL... yup, I am SOL.

Yeah, it was! I have already whined about it in another thread:
Should I buy another WK2?

bottom line, a list of problems, but the final one was the quadra lift. they couldn't find the leak, so they are buying it back. It takes a long time for the process to be completed, but tomorrow seems to be the end. The buy back was very very fair. In fact, if my dealer and corporate had the same level of professionalism and competency, I wouldn't be in this mess. I will probably post the details about the buy back once its finalized. It might be helpful, but hopefully for only a few!

Re: SOL... yup, I am SOL.

It's a Jeep guys, not a Mercedes. You're never going to get the same dealer experience as you get with an upper end car, because the dealers service lower end models as well. Whether it cost $50k or not is meaningless. What about the owner of a $70k Toyota Land Cruiser? Same service as someone who has a Corolla.

I don't miss the high end shop rates. I miss the comfy leather recliners, the juice bar, the barista"s.....but not the shop rates.

Re: SOL... yup, I am SOL.

For sure. I have an independent guy who was a Lexus master tech for 16 years. Met him when my old Lexus hit 100k miles and I was tired of paying $250 for an oil change and tire rotation. All that stuff is nice, but for what I save having him do the service I can literally take a vacation lol. He just saw the Jeep for the first time last week.

Re: SOL... yup, I am SOL.

I have a friend who bought a used Porsche SUV turbo. He went to the dealer for some parts and inquired about an oil change. $500, and with an attitude. His next stop was O'Reilly's.

Re: SOL... yup, I am SOL.

Yeah, like they're doing him a favor!

I'll always remember a long time ago my Dad was shopping for an S Class Mercedes. I was probably 17 or so. We parked in the parking lot and were walking up to the dealership when one of the salesman steps in front of us, cuts us off, walks in the door, and slams it back in our faces.

We left and he bought a Lexus instead lol

Re: SOL... yup, I am SOL.

Last time I got that attitude I was in a ski shop at Breckenridge Colorado with my son. It was in the spring and its normally a good time to pick up a set of high end skis at discount or even clearance. The 20-something salesman asked me where I was from, and I told him, and he said we must travel a lot to ski. I replied "about two hours to our local mountain". Then he asked what the vertical drop was and I told him, then he gives me a smirk. So I bought a ball cap instead, which of course, was on clearance.

While paying for the cap he shows me the side that claims they use wind power for their resort. I replied that we use nuclear power. So he smirks again, and asks me if we all glow in the dark.

So I hand him my credit card that probably has a higher limit than he makes in a year and ask him "What college did you learn these sales techniques from?"

The funny thing is that I could probably kick his ass skiing down the mountain and I'm 99% positive that my son could.

I still have the cap. A mouse started gnawing on it once but stopped because he probably didn't like the taste. But I still wear it proudly.

I don't think anyone is expecting the treatment you get from a Lexus dealer, but a little better than sticking someone who has a $50k truck into a $20k POS is to be expected. And the reality of it is, if Jeep wants to attract higher end clients, they need to get that.

And honestly, Toyota dealers would never stick a new Land Cruiser owner in a base model Rav4 loaner. It'd be a nicely equipped one, or a nicely equipped Highlander most likely. And you can talk about "same level of service" as much as you want, but it's not the case - you come in there with a nicer, more expensive car, and the service adviser WILL notice, and WILL treat you better.

Re: SOL... yup, I am SOL.

But that's just it, if they give you that treatment they have to give it to everybody. And have you ever owned a Toyota? Toyota dealers are no different than Jeep dealers. They don't even all have loaners, and absolutely would put a Land Cruiser owner in a Yaris, yet alone a Rav 4. Guess what I got as a loaner the last time I took my previous Toyota in for warranty work? A Hyundai Accent. And had to raise hell to get that!

It's never going to be a luxury marque with a luxury feel, it's not supposed to be. If you want that...buy a luxury marque. Plenty of mid market vehicles that cost $40-50k now. Fords, Toyotas, Hyundais, Hondas, the service is the same on all of them as it is on their $20k models. That's why I didn't buy a Hyundai Genesis when I got my Lexus.

You can spend $500 at Kohls and $500 at Nordstrom. The service at Nordstrom is still going to be better. You can stay in a suite at the Holiday Inn, but the smallest room at the Ritz Carlton is going to come with better service...even if they cost the same.

Anyways, a Jeep Compass is hardly a POS. It's not a GC, but it will get you where you're going.

Well, look at the bright side. The Compass is being axed so you won't have to worry about driving it in the future as a loaner.
