It seems to me that Jeep can pocket the shipping money and add it to their bottom line if they just had a factory pick up option. Sure they'd have to set up a mini "dealership area" for the dealer prep and customer pick up area and address any buyer inspection stuff (but heck the factory is right there for any issues). If the buyer finalizes everything with their ordering dealership (cash sale, lease, add-ons etc.), then why not allow a factory pickup option and save people time and money (nobody really wants the darn dealer badge on their Jeep anyway).....heck it would help the City of Detroit too as they would get "new car pickup tourism" money flowing in.

Come on.....push this through (not that I am anxious for my new GC or anything like that )
Not gonna happen. There's not a large enough number of people who would want to do this.

Oh and Corvette museum delivery... "R8C" ...

Who in the world told you that? After it leaves the door, it goes to Kenosha Releasing. They, Cassens, etc handle everything else after that...

Re: Sold Order Detroit Pickup - Making Jeep More Profitable!

In the 1960's most American cars had the 'pickup in Detroit and save shipping charges' deal. The dealers arranged it. I remember several people Enjoyed the USA on their trips home in their Chevrolets! Manufacturers no longer have the luxury of space, time and personnel while trying to price competitively.

An employee at the dealership who is fortunately no longer there. It sounded fishy then and I'm glad to know better now.

I agree. Who would want to be a dealer if you can just go to the factory and get one. Silly idea, the factory won't want to deal with all the warranty issues either.

Re: Sold Order Detroit Pickup - Making Jeep More Profitable!

Road trip to Detroit: No thanks

Jeep museum pickup: This sounds like a plan

Guided trail pickup: Ding, ding, ding!

I still feel delivery charges are a must though.

Yeah, really. Our little "Service Department" (Yes, we have one...) is full enough as is.

But I'd rather take my Jeep to the plant to get fixed, if that was possible... we know better than the dealer.

??? It is just a factory pickup...not a factory dealer. You'd still order and deal with your dealer regardless, I'm only talking about PICKING up the new vehicle....not going back there for service, etc.
