I just want to send a shout and a thank you to the members of this forum for some excellent insight and suggestions regarding questions on the GC.
While the occasional "internet fight" did flare up, this site is actually more civilized than many others I belong to. Maybe it has to do with the age group/demographic that this vehicle attracts...
Still, I'm acutely aware of the depreciation hit I've taken selling my JGC after only 24 months, but in all honestly, this has been the least dependable vehicle I've ever owned.
Any "known" issue where we see long threads about people complaining about a fault--you could add my JGC to the list. I've actually lost count of how many times this overland has been in the shop.
Issues this car has had include:
-heater/blower fan replacement,
-auto start climate control not working, and fighting with dealer to show there was a TSB on this known issue
-JGC randomly raising itself (still unresolved)
-both rear shocks replaced 2x, (that's 6 trips to the dealer)
-cold weather start up squeal--replaced power steering pump, alternator, all belts, pulleys, tensioners. (lost count of how many times the car went to the dealer for this, probably 10 times for diagnosis, leave overnight, get car back, rinse, repeat)
-Windshield washer nozzles have both been replaced 2x (remember this counts as 4 separate trips to the dealer)
-interior headliner rattle when hitting bumps still hasn't been fixed and sounds worse everyday
-now the transfer case is leaking (new dealer for trade-in spotted this) so goes in on Wednesday to fix
-while not a repair related rant I've been seeing what my actual MPG has been for the past month--wait for this, combined 11.7 mpg.
I actually don't hate my JGC, in fact its a great vehicle. Its just that I've had more problems and been to the dealer more in the past 2 years than I have with my past 5 cars combined. And I just cant live with the crappy mpg anymore.
Ford. Yep that's what I bought. My first Ford ever (and my second domestic ever) 2014 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0. Goes like stink, has all the amenities of my JGC, gets 30mpg highway/24 combined.
My delta on the trade in was $2,000. So I figure for a $2k swipe of my credit card I'm willing to start over. Wish me luck.
