I'm looking to buy a new '17 Summit loaded, is this a solid deal a on 2017?

Normally on a current model year I would certainly bargain down more, but this vehicle is NOT on the lot anywhere in the country at this point. It would have to be ordered direct from Jeep and I have never had to do that before so I don't know what the capability is in bargaining down lower than invoice is in this situation.

If someone has ordered a vehicle from Jeep directly in the recent few years, what was your experience in negotiating down below invoice on a newly released vehicle like this?

Here is what I am looking at getting:

2017 Summit MSRP $53,395 / INV. $51,148

Graphite Color Exterior
Indigo and Ski Grey Color Interiror + MSRP $4,995 / INV. $4,446
5.7L V8 Hemi w/ Quadra-Drive II + MSRP $3,695 / INV. $3,289
PLATINUM SERIES GROUP AKA "California appearance package" + MSRP $995 / INV. $886

MSRP = $63080
Invoice = $59769
Dealer Offer = $58,121 Plus tax and fees

That's not a terrible deal or uncommon. I've been able to get 4% below invoice on orders fairly easy. There are deals on this forum that I think do 8% below invoice.

If it was on a lot today they probably would not price it different. They would give deals on last years model if it was on the lot.

You can do better at end month, end quarter sometimes (to meet a quota) with any vehicle on the lot but not an order.

There are 2017 summits on the lots, but probably not packaged exactly like that.

It is a fair price. All Jeeps are ordered direct from Jeep by the dealer. Jeep does not fill the lots without the dealer specifically ordering the car. Keeping in mind that holding any product in inventory has a cost associated with it, a sold order gives the dealer the most wiggle room, because the vehicle does not spend time as inventory.

Living only a couple of hours from Koons, I took advantage of the deal they have for Jeep Garage members. If it wasn't for this I would be happy with what you are looking at.

Sometimes if people put the time they spend trying to save a dollar into trying to earn one they just might come out ahead. ;)

How good of a deal is koons actually? I have had a 3 or 4 cars priced out through to group buy and it seems like it's just a standard 7% off MSRP for every vehicle? The group buy for Jeep actually works for everything there such as Dodge I have seen. How do you know what invoice price is?

Thank you for the info. I have checked with a couple dealers and this exact configuration does not yet exist on any lots. I had the dealer check national stock levels and it seems that the Indigo and Ski Gray is not yet rolling off the line except for direct orders. So the only option I have to get it is for a direct order.

I have experience negotiating great deals below invoice on vehicles sitting on a lot but this is the first time ordering from the manufacturer so that is where I was just wondering what people are able to get on a direct order. As for grabbing a deal at specific times it is month end but not quarter end, but it is also the new year model launch.

I'm definately looking for the 2017 rather than trying to save on the 2016, the new 2017 has the lane departure warning with keep assist that I have been waiting for. It also finally has an alternate interior color that looks good besides the black. I live in south florida so a black interior is not a wise choice and the brown and black interior is not attractive at all.

Certainly a matter of taste, and there is no absolute right or wrong, but I was not even considering the solid Jeep Brown interior on my Summit until I saw it in person. It photographs terribly. But in person, the accent copper stitching and bronze accents really have a subtle beauty.

Been there, done that. I live in Miami Beach area. Let me tell you about my experience dealing with South Florida dealers.

2011 GC 4x4 V8 Summit ordered. I ordered this one via Arrigo in Sawgrass using an affiliate code for haggle-free 1% under invoice pricing. They did try to tack on their 'dealer fee' saying it was "required by state law", but after putting my foot down (thanks to advance info from another guy on this forum) they deducted that amount from the 1% under invoice price then added it back netting the 1% under invoice price. They feigned like they had never made such an adjustment before, but the affiliate pricing terms specify no additional fees may be charged by the dealer.

2014 GC 4x4 V8 Summit ordered. After contacting via fax around 20 South Florida dealerships to give me a price on an order --- even faxed a dealership in Naples. Also stopped into a few dealerships too. What an utter waste of time. I ended up ordering via the Koons group buy at 7% under invoice (approx. 6% under invoice after their dealer fee). Yes, Koons is in D.C. and you won't want to do a trade in (sell old one myself on autotrader) it sure beat dealing with the locals here as they couldn't even come close to the price. Ordering from Koons was very easy. Flew up the day after the GC came in (Koons picked me up at the airport), visited some friends, then took the Amtrak auto train from D.C. to Orlando area for the experience.

I am seriously considering a 2017 GC Summit too.....if I do pull the trigger, I am just gonna order it from Koons again. Note, the autotrain from D.C. to Orlando area is cheap when the North to South snowbird winter migration is over with.

My advice is to shop around as you are in the driver's seat to add another vehicle sale to a dealership. Or just order via the Koons group buy and make a road trip out of it for fun! ***One last note if you do buy via Koons, BE SURE TO TELL THEM TO NOT INSTALL THE FRONT LICENSE PLATE BRACKET (if you don't want it installed since FL has just a rear plate) as VA has a front plate and they generally install them by default during dealer prep.***

I have been looking as well to see if any dealers have the 2017 Summit with the new diamond pattern/quilted stitched leather option in stock yet, but I'm guessing we'll see very few on dealer lots even down the road. Considering it's a $5K option I'm guessing they'll keep it for special orders for the most part. I'm not even looking for a new rig since I just got my 2015 Summit a year ago but I absolutely love that new Laguna leather pattern upgrade. I was just hoping they would offer the leather stitching pattern in other colors but I'm guessing it's only in the Indigo/Ski Grey. One big drawback to that light color is that it will show every bit of dirt especially coming from clothes, but I totally get your situation living in Florida.

Overall that price looks pretty fair to me considering it would put you at $1,500 below invoice and $5K under MSRP.

Good luck with the process and let us know what you decide.

I generally don't like light colors. But I Can see living in Florida it's a different ball game.

But regardless of that. The Quilting reminds me of the inside of a coffin. Sorry but it's just horrible to my eyes.

I love the two tone leather colors. Lexus has had a similar color combo for several years and I've thought it looked good and wished jeep would get something similar. I agree with everyone though on the price, it's crazy steep. It's the only thing causing a delay in ordering already.

The black shows scuffs real easily as well as anything on it.I am thinking the light grey will not show as bad.

Even though I tint the windows to limo tint the first day I get the vehicle the black leather is still hot. Also I kind of like the idea of the lighter interior to contrast the darker graphite exterior. Anyone get the graphite color and regret it later on?

A member above mentioned on selling my current vehicle rather than trading in, I've thought about it. Anyone have a good experience being able to private sell a $18,000 - $20,000 car? I'm wondering if the market for that range is strong where I won't have to float two car payments for months.

Yep - it is no problem, sold my 2011 GC for around $35K via autotrader. Have sold a number of vehicles myself via autotrader and first person to come buys it. You do save sales tax if you do a trade in though....but I have always sold mine for $2K or more beyond the sales tax savings (and costs of autotrader, etc.) based on the the trade in values dealers are willing to give.

I don't understand and am clearly missing something: What are you paying $5k for? You have just the interior color listed as the option but I that can't be it.
Overall, I would say 8% off MSRP is pretty good for an upcoming year model. You could probably do a little better going through one of the big city 'group buys' but if you like the dealer, it might be worth staying local.

The color I want is only available with the Laguna leather option. Take a look here to see: Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - 2017 Grand Cherokee pricing and options

I have contacted Koons as others have suggested and so far so good, Craig appears to be a pleasant straight forward person and gave an honest up front deal. I am looking at saving about $2000 if I purchase from him, which for me is worth the flight up there, that way i order it, wait for it to arrive then fly up, take a vacation in DC for a weekend and get my car. So basically the savings pay for a nice 3 day weekend in DC. We'll see, I'll keep the thread posted with what I end up doing.

Kind of off subject...Does anyone else think that the wheels they are putting on the new Summit are ugly as hell?
I think we drifted off subject at least a page ago.

I like the wheels. And I think they look better in person than in pictures. But then again, I like the new Grey interior.

I don't think they are ugly, but I do think they are much "softer". By that I mean they are trying to appeal more to women buyers and drivers by changing the rims to make it look more like a soccer Mom mobile. Since many buyers have bailed on minivans they are buying more and more SUVs and crossovers so most of the newer vehicles in these segments today are boring and soft in appearance.

The rims would be a major pain to clean I know that much. I love mine on my 2015 Summit and I think they are the perfect combination between luxury and sport aggressive. Here's a pic of my rig. Love the rims but wish it had the Platinum pkg to cut down on some of the fake chrome everywhere.

We just picked up a new summit today, we like the wheels (but I haven't had to clean them yet)

Just asking the OP, are you prior military?

If you are and have USAA, they offer a car buying service where if you buy from a USAA certified dealer they have to sell the car for what USAA gives you a quote for.

We did it today, just printed it out before we went to the dealer and saved almost $4000 off the MSRP.
Just a thought for something to try if your looking to try to save some? Hopefully I explained it correctly, this was the first time we used it.

Congrats on the purchase.

I got $4000 off MSRP without that walking in the door and negotiated for another $2K off. Some of that was funny money with trade in. But the advertised price started at $4K off. But they started at Kelly Blue book excellent condition average price for the trade.

Yes Zeigler is very good price and hard to beat and some dealers will match them.

I've also done financing to get a deal. And just paid it off immediately.
They do get a kick back on financing.
Chrysler also has 3 year 0% financing.

If they can get even close to 7% under you are doing very well.

I've got 4% at 5 years or 5% at 6 years with USAA so that's not bad, I'd prefer the extended time since I'm looking at a $60,000 model with nothing down. I'm still debating on the Laguna leather, indigo with ski gray interior. Is it worth $5k? What's your thoughts? Is Laguna leather really an upgrade over Napa leather?

#50 ·
Concerning the leather on my 2014 summit it has not worn that well over the last 3.5 years. The driver seat bolster is cracking and wearing faster than id like and faster than past vehicles. Not sure how much better Napa would be though. One thing i have learned though is if you are ever on the fence about getting or not getting an option, always get it. 60k is too much money to spend to sit around later on wishing you had got that v8 or that leather or whatever.

'murica...because you're in Florida, you can't get a discount on your MaxCare plan because of the way the laws are structured down there. While Florida is one of two states where the lifetime contract can be transferable...no discounts on the plan are available. You may or may not be able to get the plan discounted online, but there has been previous discussion where the online sellers may need to do the "Florida price" for "Florida Residents". Please check that out with anyone you're considering buying from that's out of state.

While being able to transfer my lifetime contract in the future would have been nice (not available in PA)...I much preferred the $2180 I paid for the contract from Ziegler at the time than what it costs in Florida. ;)

Chrysler financing still looks like the best deal:

  1. 0.0% for 24 months
  2. 0.0% for 36 months
  3. 0.9% for 39 months
  4. 0.9% for 42 months
  5. 0.9% for 48 months
  6. 1.9% for 60 months
  7. 3.9% for 72 months
  8. Applies to select new 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Offer only valid 9-01-2016 through 10-03-2016

As a follow up, the one thing I found on the Maxcare specifically is on this page Maximum Care - Mopar Vehicle Protection - Chrysler

it states:

"And when it's time to sell your vehicle, Maximum Care is transferable, which may increase its resale value. Some restrictions may apply."

However under the FAQ page Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Chrysler Service Contracts | Chrysler

it states:

Q: Do Lifetime plans cover everything for the life of the vehicle?

A: Lifetime plans provide mechanical repairs for the covered components listed in your personalized plan provisions, but they do not include wear items like brakes or tires. Non-mechanical benefits like first day rental, rental allowance, roadside assistance, towing allowance and trip interruption benefits expire at 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Lifetime plans cover only for the original owner; they are not transferable unless required by state law.

So therefor it appears the plans that are less than lifetime are transferable however the lifetime plan is not, unless specifically required by law. So far I have been unable to find this law for Florida.

Since you already know that Florida has specific rules, you need to get a copy of the Florida contract before you start picking out specific details. You could just be spinning your wheels otherwise.
