With their Dodge Ram. He almost cleared me too, 1 more feet to the right. Claim is setup with his insurance already. Don't know if they have to inspect it, or I can just take it to a couple of shops for estimates this weekend. Adjuster or whatever they call it is suppose to call me tomorrow though.

Hopefully they wont try to screw me over using aftermarket parts. I will not be happy with that. Especially for the immaculate condition my jeep is in. :slapfight: Have no idea how much this will cost, but will throw $3500 out there.

I see damage on the body, inside the hole of the bumper. Not big dents or anything, but looks damage. And paint peeling because of the curviness of the impact area. So I will want them to fix that, before covering it all up with a bumper. Don't want to rust from the inside out.

Maybe I can get an Altitude painted lower trim instead of my plain black.....

The nice surprise was, the rear taillight is still all red at night. I thought it would have been white, with the missing lens. But my right turn signal is half red, half white/yellowish.

That sucks sorry that happened. I cant tell in the pictures, but did the rear quarter panel get damaged as well or was all the damage isolated to the lift gate, tail lamp, and bumper? That would suck if they have to repair the quarter panel and im not sure how they would do that short of having to use bondo and junk like that since I would highly doubt that would be replaced.

Be glad he had valid insurance!
Had an old Bonneville clip me (lower down so only plastic damage) and she pulled out what appeared to be a valid insurance card.... Until I called them later in the day and they stated that she had been dropped.

Lesson #1: Always call the insurance company at the scene of the accident in Minnesota. If they aren't insured. the next call is to the cops.

A) Insist on OEM parts, it's your right.

B) Make SURE the alignment on the liftgate is 100% perfect no matter how good it looks post repair. If not, insist on a new one. I have yet to see a repaired litigate that wasn't f'd up somehow, often not found until it was too late. Listen for pops, creaks, and groans.

Oh, and yes, bodyshop time is a good opportunity for upgrading so go for the painted trim.

Estimate at first location is $5600. I would have no issues taking it to this place. Has great reviews and it's close. I still haven't heard from their adjuster yet. I don't know if protocol requires me to, or I can just proceed.

I also find it odd the body shops I checked out are all closed on the weekends. So that sucks.

I did call the cops when it happened. But dispatcher said they don't send cops to the scene. Just make sure you pull over to the side of the road and exchange info. Thanks a lot 9-1-1.

A lot of states don't send officers to a crash scene unless there was an injury or worse. In South Dakota, if it happens on private property (shopping mall or a parking lot, for example), the city police don't even care as long as there wasn't an injury.

I would definitely get your insurance involved, right now, if you have not already done so. It does not cost you anything extra, you don't have to file a claim through your insurance. You pay them partly for this reason: they will pressure the other guy's insurance, and get you back your Jeep faster. I can guarantee that the other insurance company will try to push aftermarket parts, they always do. You pushing back is one thing, but your insurance pushing back for OEM parts will count for a lot more, especially if the other guy admitted fault.

I agree with Jason. It's your insurance company's job to help you get your claim settled, even if they are not the ones on the hook to pay it. In some states, like PA where I live, they do the payout and you get your deductible back when the other party's insurance pays...which speeds up the process of getting one back in their own vehicle.

Agreed, that you get your insurance involved. A few years back I got rear ended in my JGC while I was in Virginia (home was NJ). When I got back, the guys adjuster came and gave me an estimate that seemed fairly low (I was hit at ~40 MPH almost in the identical spot as you were. My biggest fear was that the chassis was misaligned due to the impact - luckily not). When I got the car to my local body shop I used for quite a bit, I asked them for an additional "off the record" estimate with all the correct OEM parts. Needless to say, the two estimates were VASTLY different and the other guys insurance was totally low balling the repair estimate. I had been in contact with my own insurance broker the whole time and they were able to lay down some heat and pressure to get me my OEM replacements :D Came out good as new. The real hero was my trailer hitch that was still on. It saved the day - that car was totaled and needed to be flat bedded off I-95.

Sorry that your Jeep got hit. The important thing is that no one was injured.

Someone kissed mine a couple of years ago, when I first got the Jeep. I was fortunate because it was a low speed impact in stop-n-go traffic and they hit the tow hitch, no damage to my car except a couple of very minor rub marks on the bumper cover.

That experience, plus the overall feeling that cars were getting too close during braking, prompted me to replace the rear Brake lights with LEDs. LEDs come on quicker and brighter. Since then, most cars behind me tend to stop sooner. I just replaced the lower reflectors with LED lights as well... :)

Of course, nothing is going to stop inattentive drivers...

Ouch. that sucks. As for OEM parts, well it all depends what insurance you got. Yes it is your right to choose OEM parts but depending on your insurance and their fine print they may legally use aftermarket parts. I learned that lesson a few months back after a broken window. My carrier has it in their fine print. Bastards! But regardless you can get the OEM parts just expect for them to ask you to pay the difference between OEM and Aftermarket. Luckily for me, the body shop i went to they did put aftermarket window (did not have the mopar logo) so i raised hell after i noticed they scratched the chrome trim and fixed that and through in the mopar window.

Welcome to the club! Mine was 1 day before yours. In my case we both have the same insurance company so I filed against the other insured's policy. The asshat is not responding to the insurance company's calls despite me providing the police report and all so I'm going to wait out the 30 days for him to default. Unfortunately he got your liftgate too...have you checked underneath for damages yet?

Damn apparently that reflector on the bumper is always the first thing that goes.

Stick with the black lower trim, you'll be less annoyed and it's easier to clean when it gets all scuffed up.

So their insurance adjuster was able to contact their client and confirm the accident. Their insurance is taking 100% responsibility. I emailed them the quote I received and a bunch of pictures.

It was more than enough, they felt the estimate was accurate or close, but they wanted to contact the body shop. They negotiated and dropped the amount to just under $5000. The body shop told me, insurance "found" a couple of reconditioned parts and wanted to use an aftermarket reflector and 1 section of the light. The body shop said they will contact their parts dealer and see if they will match the insurances prices.

It appears the dealer matched it. So I should be getting all OEM parts. Not too sure about the "reconditioned" parts, but as long as they look as good as new, I'm fine with that.

Farmers has really made it easy on my end so far. They've sent the body shop the check and I can't drop my vehicle off until July 6 because they are booked until then. That's usually a good sign right?

Good news. I got my JGC back today. BAd news, I'll be dropping it back off at the shop on the 10th for additional work. I went over their working and not happy with it.

First thing is, I told them to NOT wash my vehicle. Well, when I showed up, it was getting out of "detailing". FFFUUUU

2nd, lack of communication. They never called me once to tell me my vehicle was taking longer or when ETAs were changed. They are suppose to call 24-48 hours when it's suppose to by ready for pickup. I've always had to initiate the 2 calls.

Anyways, so they drop off my vehicle up front and I'm going over it. First thing I notice is the light swirl marks in the sun.... **** me.

2nd, I still see compound or wax or whatever it is that's still on the car. So after their "detail", all this residue made it look like damage or scratched on the car. Fortunately, I had a microfiber rag on hand. Used a little bit of water and rag to make sure they were scratches. Cleans up well.

3, I see a cloudy area along the fender edge.

4, there was a dimple at a random spot long the rear quarter.

5, I'm missing the 2 screws holding the bumper that's hidden by the liftgate.

6, my wheel fender's edge looks all chewed up. I think this was either damaged during the accident and got missed. Or it got damaged during reinstall of bumper.

7, my taillight has a chip it in. It was indicated during initial inspection for a replacement, but looks like they forgot it.

8, my most left backup sensor seems to be out of it's location and looks funny.

I will need to wash it and see how bad the damage is this weekend. Fortunately, the front 1/3 of my vehicle is protected with XPEL, so I know that area will be good.

Other than that, the paint looks really good and near perfect match. They are going to replace the rear bolts holding the bumper.

What I need from you guys is, is it color matched to your vehicle or just a standard black bolt?

Also, does your latch on your liftgate look like this with 3 screws? Looks funny to me.
