Something extra I wish my EVIC Screen displayed

I am thrilled with my 2013 JGC Overland V8 and I barely miss my 2001 F150 Ford Lightning that I traded in. Even though my Jeep will never approach the 12.65 seconds ET I got the Lightning to with just a few owner-installed mods at a nearby NHRA 1/4 mile track, I'd gotten a little too old to be drag racing anymore and it had 120,000+ miles on it. Btw, you can see a little bit of the Lightning in my avatar pic.

I am intrigued by the electronics in the Jeep. I'm still learning as I discover a new feature every now and then. What I would like to see in the EVIC display is the gear the transmission is in when I'm driving in 'D'. Yes, I know I can see the different gears when I shift it manually. I've read that when in 'D', the trans may select gears that are not in normal sequence. Sometimes, it starts off '2', etc. I'd just like to know but I'll accept what it does automatically and be satisfied.

Here's a bigger pic of the Lightning:

The gear number is there but very faded by the D.

Are you sure it does not? My 2014 Limited shows the gear number next to the D. It is faint, but it is there.

To see the current gear, on your EVIC go to Screen Setup and then Current Gear and select On

Dunno your vehicle, but on my 2014, it does display the gear just to the right of the D.
Unfortunately it does so very very faintly and if you have any kind of sunglasses on, you can't see it at all. Even without sunglasses, you risk trees jumping in front of you trying to see it.

Agreed--it would be a very nice feature.

Conspiracy nuts would think they are trying to hide something.... as in never reaching 9th unless falling off a cliff.

Istowell, it's a 2013 JGC V8 2WD. The 'D' is bumped up against the right edge.

And I take it you can't move it.

Will have to try the evic mod setting...

Re: Something extra I wish my EVIC Screen displayed

I think what he is saying is that he can see the D, however the actual number that the tranny is in, 1-8 is very faint. I agree. why even bother showing 1-8, if it is barely visible?

Re: Something extra I wish my EVIC Screen displayed

I don't believe the '13 and older EVIC's show the current gear, even faintly. I haven't seen any settings to show it, either. I'd be happy if I could have it display the speed and fuel economy but that is beyond its ability

I agree, it is very faint. All they'd need to do is change the color of it and that'd be an improvement. Speaking of faint, even with the Park Sense volume set to Max, I find the volume to be very low when approaching an obstacle behind you unless the radio very low. I know the display is there but looking between the camera, mirrors and the EVIC is enough of a distraction. Louder volume would help. At least for me anyway. Maybe I just need to get used to this new technology.
