SPORT MODE....when is it used ?

Can anyone tell me when the SPORT mode is used in my 2013 JGC Ltd. 3.6 4x4? It does NOT have the Quadra Lift suspension. I see when I set it on SPORT the ESC goes off and the engine jumps up a few hundred RPMs. That seems to be the only thing I've noticed. Any explanation would be appreciated. Thanks, Guys.

The Sport mode keeps the transmission in gear longer and provides better throttle response. The Grand Cherokee in its Normal mode is tuned more for a comfortable ride than for athletic moves. But Sport mode is now available across the lineup, engaged with a pull on the transmission handle. In Grand Cherokees equipped with the air suspension, Sport mode wakes up the truck and transforms it significantly, changing shift patterns, suspension settings and ride height to minimize body roll and create a more surefooted performance in fast twisties. In models without the air suspension, only the transmission behavior and throttle response change.

So it should be used when you want to partake in some more spirited driving.

It also changes the power distribution to reflect that of a more rwd rather then 4wd.

Does anyone ride around in "normal" mode, ie non eco non sport?? I think its overlooked that we have 3 modes actually not just eco sport.

Pushing the eco button to turn it off doesn't automatically trigger the sport mode!!

:mindblown:

I use Sport mode in the twisties. It holds the gears longer since I hate it when it upshifts when in normal mode and I have to push the pedal harder so it will downshift to a lower gear. Other than this, I have no use for it.

I use sport mode while city driving and dry condition highways to improve my driving experience, in my opinion it improves throttle response considerably but leaves holes in the handling which I assume is a result of the ESC being shut off. Not good for wet conditions.

I bet it is different experience in the V8. On the V6, I found no difference other than holding gears longer. Throttle response was the same...

On my Cayenne S, the sport button changes the car completely.

cheers,

I wish that once sport mode changes the suspension to aero, that it would stay in aero if I change back to ECO. This assumes that conditions are such that aero still makes sense. Currently, if I use sport mode to get a quicker start or traffic merge, it switches back to normal ride height no matter what. This is more wear and tear than is necessary.

No problem at all...as long as you don't mind "pushing the button" each time you start the vehicle. ;)

Don't see why not but you'll give up some mileage.

Sport mode is awesome on the hemi

The best part of sport mode is engaging it at a stop light and watch the people beside you stare....wondering why the front end is dropping down...lol
Definitely a different feeling driving in sport mode....this thing can move out pretty good!

I drive in sport mode or paddle shift all the time, except when I am on the highway! Then I drop into D mode to save gas! LOL!

I believe this to be true. A lot of the focus of Sport Mode is better performance in stop'n'go with the changes to shift points, etc. Aero mode on QL looks kewel at non-highway, but isn't going to have as much effect on economy and aerodynamics at low speeds as it potentially will at highway speeds...where it's automagical anyway. Once you get up to cruising, things are a wash.

I may be wrong, but I find sport mode to handle better than eco mode on the freeway (+70mph). No matter what mode I am in the suspension always goes into aero at ~55mph. But I suspect that there are differences in the suspension too (or perhaps the additional torque to the rear makes it feel that way). Around town I use eco, as I think it is more efficient. This is all based on the diesel engine, where there is only 240hp, but 420 ft/lb of torque at 1800rpm.

I drive in sports mode almost exclusively. Kills gas mileage around town but I cannot stand the throttle response of regular drive mode. Doesn't make a difference on freeway other than it downshifts to a lower gear than normal drive would, so immediately have more power available. Plus, my speed often varies between 30-60, and I do not want the suspension raising and lowering 10 times in course of a short trip, and sport mode eliminates that.
