Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

I doubt it, "Uconnect is a consumer wireless service for use in Chrysler vehicles that may include remote features, vehicle health reports, theft alarm notification, voice text reply, automatic crash notification, emergency call, stolen vehicle assistance, search point of interest, performance pages, and smartphone applications ("Uconnect Services")." "Your subscription period begins when you purchase the Uconnect Services and you will be automatically charged monthly until you unsubscribe".

I could not find what these monthly fees are but suspect they are similar to Onstar. The hotspot access would be in addition to this.

My smartphone can support connection via 802.11, USB, or Bluetooth but the MiFi device only does 802.11.

So what does the remote start via cell phone go through? I could care less about the hot spot, my phone can do that with 4G speeds.

The remote start via cell goes through Sprint as well. However there is no mention of what the fees will be, if any, after the 1 year trial.

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

Let me clarify:

You pay for Wifi hotspot
You pay for Onstar like features
You can use your data plan with UCONNECT apps for free.

Excerpt from manual (unless that has changed recently):

"To get started using Via Mobile Apps, first register your Uconnect® Access
system. During registration you can establish a link to your media accounts such
as Aha, iHeartRadio, Pandora or Slacker. You can go back to update your account
at any time by visiting MoparOwnerConnect.com and selecting “Edit Profile”.
• If using an Android smartphone, the Apps will function using a Bluetooth®
connection. Pair your smartphone to the radio, log in to the Uconnect® Access
App on your smartphone, and check to make sure Via Mobile is ready to provide
data to the radio.
• If using an iPhone smartphone, log in to the Uconnect® Access App on your
smartphone, plug the iPhone into the radio using a USB cable, and check to
make sure Via Mobile is ready to provide data to the radio."

That probably would be Sprint. Most likely remote start will cost you 9.99 or something like that. I would imagine would be competitive with OnStar.

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

Point is we are rapidly moving to a point where we will be more dependant on the Internet than gasoline. I already pay more per month for those services than gas and all of these technologies are in violent collision.

It is also complex making these technologies talk together & am reminded of all the trouble GM got in with SEMA and the Fed about tying their radios to GM suppliers.

Have said it before: I expect the next generation of entertainment packages to consist of a docking station.

There is no physical docking station but if I connect my iPhone via USB cable how is that different? I would say docking station is in there already.

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

What I mean is a docking station, amp, speakers, and an antenna. Essentially a "Tablet accomodation package" that locks the tablet in place, in view, and does not block anything else.

My current windows 8 pro tablet can provide entertainment (audio/video including CD/DVD), sat-nav, rear view camera, engine parameters & diagnostics, plus the whole factory service manual. Those do not require wifi/sprint/on-star/whatever.

With my hotspot active add web/e-mail and everything else on the internet.

I do use the radio for the Aux Jack and BT Handsfree but have add-ons that can do that in my other cars.

Am using traditional equipment to type this but when connected the tablet could use the same keyboard/mouse/monitor to do exactly the same. Can also display my cable TV guide and the shows.

Have to stop thinking in terms of "car" and more in terms of "personal" - something you can use anywhere & "car" is just one aspect.

Is what I meant by we are experiecing a massive collision of technologies.

It is mind blowing! Things that you can do in your Jeep today, ONLY captain Kirk could do not so long time ago.

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

Has anybody found pricing yet for the UConnect features for post-trial subscriptions?

I just want to have iPhone remote start capability and hope it won't cost $200/year...
