Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

Are these rates correct for the 2014 Uconnect ? Apparently is 3G only. I have seen mention that it can act as a hot spot, can it use local wireless to avoid charges ?

Right now I have both a cell phone that can be a hotspot and a MiFi device that can do the same. Can the Jeep use either of these or is it locked to Sprint ?

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

I can say with some certainty that if it's only linked to Sprint, I won't be using it. Sprint's coverage absolutely sucks and come December, I will be finding a new cell service provider. Have them now and am very disappointed.

Yes the vehicle can only have Sprint. This was stated from the very beginning. Wifi hotspot that is.

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

Coverage in odd places is why both my cell phone and my MiFi device use Verizon. Yet another reason to use my own tablet.

BTW anyone notice that the base radio appears not to support handsfree ?

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

1 day is 9.99
1 week is 19.99
1 month is 34.99

It's Sprint, unlimited usage during the time frame you pay for. It's slow as hell, well because Sprint. There is no contract, you can keep activating as often as you want.

I activated it for a month, it works like a champ, but again, data speeds are shitty. You tie your credit card to your UConnect account and can make the purchase in the vehicle, which is convenient. I can see using this if i'm on the road and in a jam. But it's not something I'm going to keep renewing on a regular basis simply because of the speed.

You guys confusing two things. There is hotspot that you can buy but not sure why would you ever do it if you can get the same via your phone and probablyy for free if you jailbreak it or root it.

Uconnect itself can tether via your phone via bluetooth (Android) or usb (ios). You need to download uconnect app to be able to do this. Than in your car you can use buildin pandora app but suck data by using your plan from your phone. Thats what they say in the manual but my understanding is that car's uconnect apps as well as phone app are not out yet. You need both. App on you phone (to be able to bridge phones data plan and uconnect) and cars uconnect apps to be able to use that data. Bottom line is if you have smartphone and data plan you are all set.

Sprint is ONLY if you want to turn your Jeep into wifi hotspot. 35 bucks maybe it is not sucha bad deal. Some phone companies charge 50 for the same in addition to your normal plan.

Granted, I'm paying $150/month for my T-Mobile service (with a total of 4 lines and lots of other toys) and I'm with them for more than 10 years now - but they threw in tethering on my HTC Sensation with my 5 GB 4G data-plan for free after I asked them for it.

Charging $50 for tethering only sounds very expensive to me.

Re: Sprint Rates for 2014 Uconnect

I still haven't seen if we can use a hotspot from our phones to give the Uconnect internet. I already pay for tethering to my phone so it would be cool to use it.
