Looking to get an SRT hood for my Limited. Besides the hood panel and the 2 vents, what else should I order? Can I reuse my old hood insulation, struts, weatherstriping? Any help who has done this before would be greatly appreciated. I just want to make sure I order all the small things I need. Thanks Al

Hi, I just completed doing a SRT hood upgrade to my 2014 Overland. It is really easy if you can find a good painter that can match the paint without during blending on the fenders. I done all of the SRT hood upgrade myself except for the painting of the hood. Mine is black (PXR) so it was really hard for the guy to get the hood to match, but he did and it looks great on my Jeep. You cannot use the regular hood silencer that is on your regular hood. I have listed the parts below that you will need. You can reuse your striker hood latch, hood hinges, and hex head bolt that holds gas prop for your hood. I have attached a few photos of mine. If you want some of the underside just let me know. Hope this helps. :)

1 Ea. Hood Bezel 68090698AB $12.35
1 Ea. Hood Bezel 68090699AB $12.35
1 Ea. SRT Hood Silencer 68088724AC $95.35
7 Ea. Silencer Retainer Holders 4878883AA $6.35
1 Ea. Hood Seal 68084597AB $29.95
1 Ea. SRT Hood 68040264AF $927.00
1 Ea. Chrome Jeep Hood Emblem 5182390AB $45.00

This post come at a perfect time being that my wife was involved in a minor fender bender. Was just looking for part numbers to make this swap happen.
Thanks!

Thanks very much for the pics and info and prices. Your Jeep looks great. What do you think my cost would be for the prep, paint and installation of the hood? Also I have a V6, will the shape of the new hood effect any clearance issues under the hood? Just picked up my 2011 so I am new to this stuff. Al

I had my hood prep and painted for $350.00 and the guy done a great job in matching the factory paint (No Fender Blending To Match Hood). It looks like it came on it from the factory. Also if you have the stock factory intake on your jeep you will not have any clearance issues. I had installed the factory 5.7L Hemi OEM Mopar intake on mine so I had to upgrade to the SRT 6.4L intake to get the SRT hood vent clearance. Injen makes a intake system for the SRT 6.4L engine. All I used was the Injen heat shield that came with the kit. It will drop right in to the 5.7L Hemi engine and mount to all the factory mounting hardware. I have included some photos of mine. If I can help just let me know. Thanks :)

Where are you guys getting the hoods from?

I thought Black Ops Autoworks was basically the only source and he said he isn't making them anymore. Just wondering.

Looks awesome on your Jeep though.

It's an OEM part. Check your local dealer.

Got all my parts ordered and headed to the paint shop. Will get pics up when everything is put back together.

That is great. I hope all goes well with the painting. I know you will be happy with it when you get it all completed, I find a lot of the parts on-line cheaper but by the time I paid for shipping it was going to cost me more. The Jeep dealership here is small so they want give you much of a price break. I really want to see your pictures when you get it all installed. It will set your Jeep off when it comes to looks. You will be happy I know.

Were you able to talk your dealer down on parts prices? I found the parts on line for alot less than list. For example, I found the hood for around 660.00 on line as compared to the 927.00 they list it for. I hope to talk my parts dealer down to about 850.00 total for everything. Paint and labor not included of course. I printed out the sheet to show them. Gives me some ammo to work with. It worked on the grill I bought a few months ago. Saved me about 100.00 there.

A local to me dealer has a large online parts store that offers about a 30% discount so I was able to save a good chunk of change.

I'm doing the Altitude headlights and grill at the same time also. Will definitely post up pics once complete.

I have a quick question: why are you guys doing the swap ? for looks or for function?

I dig the looks of the SRT. I like the hood, it is aggressively looking. And yes, if it was much cheaper and I lived in the desert/mountains, I might be tempted to do it myself for the added cooling (venting ports) aspect of it. Alright, maybe the diesel sniffers who tow a lot probably should be looking into it as a way to control the rising coolant temps. But putting it on a V6 (gas or diesel) and not have the performance ( i.e. acceleration) to go along with the looks is very ....pretentious.

Reminds me of all those early to mid 2000s kids who added a Subaru STI wing to their Subaru with Impreza 2.5 NA or 2.0 NA engines. My point is that some "visual tuning" elements really only work if you also have the supporting "mechanical tuning".

So getting the SRT hood based on how it looks from a design stand point is too pretentious to you unless we have a fast Jeep? What a load of shi*.

And comparing it to a wing on an STI...wow. :gtfoslap:

No one wants the hood for added benefit of performance and there's no wool I'm trying to pull over anyone's eyes, making them think I am impersonating an SRT.

I am swapping to the SRT hood because I like the way it looks. It will obviously cool better as well. I disagree that style has to be tied to the vehicles ability to accelerate. That's an interesting concept. It's a vehicle, people mod them.

P.S. Check out this "pretentious" Jeep hood. The Rubicon X also has a vented hood with a 3.6L. Weird... :slapfight:

Ordered everything I needed to do the swap today. I hope to have some pics in about 2 weeks. I didnt know know I would tilt the world off its axis by doing this mod, but I like the looks of the hood as well. I just want my Jeep to be a little different than the rest. Everyone grab onto something as I do not anyone falling off the Earth when this is completed.

Lol. Right on man! Can't wait to see pics.

P.S. I would "thank" you vzwman but the forum won't allow it.

Here's a couple more.

Super dope thread!!! I am doing this mod as well as I have to replace my hood due to a VERY MINOR fender bender.

I'm installing it on my 2011 Limited along with the 2014 LED Bi-xenons, grille, and bumper assembly.

Thanks again for the thread. I was wondering what it was going to look like.

I really appreciate this thread. I had an accident last week and am replacing my hood with an SRT. I think it will look sweet. my truck is a granite crystal and I'm tempted to paint the inserts something interesting like red but I'll probably just stick with basic black.

Those hood swaps look awesome guys,I was Suprised just how sweet they look! Never looked hard at the hoods, mainly because an SRT is above what I would want to spend and be comfortable each month, and I think you put a REAL nice unique touch to your Jeeps and the couple of different color vehicles that have pictures posted convinces me these are a great option/upgrade would look great on any color JGC.Was kinda confused about a negative observation?on these hood upgrades as they certainly make your Jeep stand out.Would definitely make me look several times and wonder if there was a model out I wasn't aware of.If I ever was unfortunate enough to need to replace a hood due to damage I would definitely spring the difference and opt for that style hood.Very nice looking,to me,upgrade.Congrats and I think, awesome.Everyones opinion differs but in general I think people would like this upgrade.

Lucked out and found a factory 14' SRT hood for my Summit in my paint color on CL. I love the aggressive looks of it....only issue was I had to notch out a small piece of the heat shield from my MOPAR CAI as the hood vent was coming in contact with it.......

I really like it! I debated doing this on my '15 Limited as I like the more aggressive look, but never got around to it.

Good revival of a bit older thread. Wonder how the ease of figment would be on a '16 as the engine compartment is set up a bit different now.
