Standard battery Vs. AGM in WK2

I just replaced my battery in my 2011 GC and didn't realize till I got home that Autozone sold me a Non-AGM battery. I found tons of info that explains why an AGM battery is better, but I can't find anything that says that I can't replace it with one that is not an AGM. Is my Jeep going to put too much of a strain on the regular battery and kill it with all of the electronics or is it OK? Any battery experts out there?

Not sure where the battery is located in a 2011, if it the same as latter models and under the seat from a standard battery you have the risk of getting fumes from the battery inside. A AGM battery is completely sealed.

I was thinking the same thing but the battery that I got actually had the vent holes that the factory tube plugged right into, just like the AGM battery. It's under the passenger seat.

I haven't bought a non-AGM battery in years. Even put an AGM in my John Deere riding lawn mower. Holds a charge for months.

This. The battery is located under the front passenger seat...and you should use the AGM for replacement.

Re: Standard battery Vs. AGM in WK2

Unless the battery specifically says it is for a non-vented installation then it is not rated for inside the passenger compartment.

Fumes from a wet battery are sulphuric acid mist and will eat anything that is not rated for it.

My experience the AGM is best. I did lots of homework. The red/yellow tops are junk! Sears sells very good ones around $250.00 You get what you pay for. The AGM could sit forever and it will have plenty of juice to go.

Re: Standard battery Vs. AGM in WK2

My wife's vehicle, a 2011 BMW 328, has the battery in the trunk, which is technically in the passenger compartment. That has a non AGM battery, but it is connected to a small drain/ vent hose to the atmosphere. Chrysler didn't provide that feature, so you are limited to an AGM battery.

A Zone just gave you the .... oh, never mind.

Re: Standard battery Vs. AGM in WK2

It is under the seat, but it also DOES have a vent line that plugs into the side of the battery. Here is the battery I got: Duralast Gold/Battery 94R-DLG- ReadReviews onDuralast Gold #94R-DLG and here is the AGM: Duralast Platinum/Battery H7-AGM- ReadReviews onDuralast Platinum #H7-AGM. The only difference is that the AGM has an Amp-Hour rating of 80. Maybe that is needed for all of the electronics they put in the WK2.

Re: Standard battery Vs. AGM in WK2

The money wasn't an issue as it's only $15 more for the AGM, so just to be safe I returned the battery and swapped it for the AGM. I still don't know that it matters either way, being that they both have vent tube connections. I'm still curious to know. And it took me all of 5 minutes to swap the battery in the parking lot whereas the guy at AutoZone took at least 15 minutes and come to find out, didn't even put the vent plug in the forward facing vent hole on the first battery.

I don't know why I even bother letting someone else do any work to my vehicles. I usually don't, but you would think that swapping out a battery would be almost idiot proof. Apparently not...
