Re: Start/stop

UPDATE:

I have written a FAQ on the SmartStopStart module, based on questions I have been receiving.

Here is the link: FAQ - Smart Stop Start

Also, Beta testing continues to go very well and manufacturing is ramping up. I still plan to begin to notify availability to at least the earlier waiting list customers before the end of October.

Start/stop

I am so glad I saw this post. We just got our 2017 summit and this is one of the things my wife dislikes. This will make her very happy! 😬

Re: Start/stop

I have had my vehicle, well... 5 full days and I have spent three days with the ESS on and two days off. These days have been every other with eachother. I personally feel my car runs "normal" without it on. Please do not ask me to define that because I cannot but I also find I am waiting for it to shut down on the "off" days. I don't mind the shut off at all actually, but I have real concern about the life of certain parts on my vehicle, which parts I am not exactly sure just concern. I purchased this vehicle like the two JGC before it and I was hoping I could expect it to run as long.... 9 years average with about 175,000 miles. Honestly if I was leasing I would probably keep the ESS on all the time. I am not, What does this mean to me for repairs as a buyer. I will be purchasing the extra warranty through Mopar just trying to decide if I want lifetime at this point wondering if I may trade in, in time, just against my past history. Thinking extended warranty would not cover battery I do not think. Would it cover all the other "parts" affected by this start/stop feature? I have no data but wondering if the gas save impact rules out the repair cost impact?

Re: Start/stop

The waiting list is now closed.

SmartStopStart is now available for purchase to any interested Grand Cherokee 2016 and 2017 3.6L gas engine owners here: Smart Stop Start - Home

This module will remember your Stop-Start disable and SPORT settings between engine starts.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the device.

Re: Start/stop

I was considering this until I saw the price. I think $150 is too much for giving me the convenience of not having to press a button when I turn on my car.

Re: Start/stop

Have to agree. Not asking for something for nothing, and I'm sure there was expense in R&D and such, but under $100 makes me much more likely to consider something like this so I don't have to remember touch a button. Even at that, I'd probably still be on the fence, but it would definitely be a "consider" at that price. Maybe you can also get Quadratec and Extreme Terrain and such to pick it up as well to help you with volume?

Cheers though, and good luck.

Re: Start/stop

+1

I received an invitation but for $150 thats too much, considering Tazer is $250 and does quite a bit more (Start/Stop disable on its way) I would consider purchasing the Smart Stop Smart but for $150 I think I'll just press one more button after I hit the start button... If you ever drop down to $75 (or add more features)(nav in motion for example) count me in as one who would purchase for the convenience...

Thumbs up Re: Start/stop

I really appreciate the frank feedback and I do listen. Ultimately the marketplace will decide.

So far I have been happy with the sales, and have actually had quite a few customers tell me the product is absolutely worth the price (some of the feedback is also posted on that other Jeep forum and other threads on this forum).

As far as the Tazer goes, if they implement Stop/Start and or SPORT mode memory, they might find there will be patent issues. I had a patent filing long before this product was ever publicized.

Really, anyone can apply for a patent for anything. Without Chrysler giving you permission to their intellectual property, your patent filing isn't going to mean much... Let's just be honest here, Alexandria being right around the corner from you and all.

The patent application has no relationship to any auto company's intellectual property, it is much more general than that. All I am saying I have a relevant patent filed. The validity will be determined in due time.
